Questions about my SGFC
#21693269 - 05/18/15 02:01 AM (9 years, 1 month ago) |

So theres my SGFC the thing to the left is an aquarium air pump on a timer im thinking if i got the air hoses for it i could use it to pump in fresh air while im sleeping cool thing is that theres a filter on the intake another thing that ive added is led puck lights up top and of course my handy dandy squirt bottle so 3 questions really 1. Aquarium Air Pump yay or nay? 2. Are leds ok as a light source 3. Im having a tough time finding perlite without miracle-gro plant food in it and that just sounds wrong to me. Is it?

1. Nay the SGFC is made to create it's own air currents that provide best evaporation, putting anything that forces the air to move ruins the entire point of a SGFC.
2. If the LED are rated at 6500k it should be OK but I have always heard to use CFK or fluorescent light source.
3. The miracle grow perlite is not the best for the SGFC because the pellets are so small and can plug up the holes. It will do the job though just make sure your cakes are sitting on a canning lid or foil so they are not touching the perlite.

Yea you cant pump in air for FAE. The air pumps just cant do what we need.
In a SGFC the holes provide all the fresh air *exchange* you need. A lot of new growers see fanning and think that is what provides the fresh air exchange but no, fanning only stimulates evaporation after a misting.
Does it actually have miracle grow in it? I thought it was just MG brand.. either way yea I use it but like said above its not the best!

My miracle grow perlite had fertilizer in it and I had to wash it extra well. That is a lot of holes. I had a lot of trouble keeping humidity high with half as many holes. Doesn't seem to be the consensus but just my two cents.

Those puck lights don't have a very high output...I'd go to any store walmart etc. and get a 6500K rated bulb...they are cheap like 3-5 dollars. Other than that you're lookin good... I'd recommend a couple times a day/night opening that closet door and having a window open in that room for some fresh air.

SGFC specs: 1/4" holes placed every 2" on ALL 6 sides in a grid pattern...

No need to keep the humidity high....that is not the point of the chamber....

I also live near a big city, and had trouble finding the right perlite. Maybe I just didn't look hard enough, I ended up ordering it online.

You see the Kelvin rating on it "2700K"...your looking for 6500K minimum.

That bulb requires 120v of AC, not 9v DC.
