Hi All,
as the subject says, has anyone actually grew this strain? if so share your experience with it, would like to know how hardy it is and how long it takes to flower. I have read up a fair bit about the strain but never met someone who has grown it.

I had bad germination with them, only a couple of plants grew whereas my gigs went crazy. They look beautiful, both as flowers and pods, but you can't lance them and I don't know that they yield that much more (if any) than gigs if used for tea. They're not a bad poppy and they're much easier to justify in your garden because they look amazing, certainly better yielding and looking than turks, pepperbox or breadseed. I'd do gigs if I were looking for maximum yield, otherwise, hens and chicks are an awesome flower and will give you some great looking pods for tea (if you can get them to germinate and grow to maturity ).

My Gigs and Izimirs went crazy and I'm not sure id H and c did anything because I didn't label them in pots like I did the others. They are spoken highly of though in what I've read.

I have grown them and they are absolutely beautiful. They also take the longest time to grow of any papaver strain. They will put out about 10 heads per well established plant, one or two sized bigger than your brain. Very,mmmm... Very fragrant and holds petals for 2 weeks. Will grow as tall as a short adult and have a stalk as big as a femur. I would highly recommend for any purpose but seed production because they are hard to collect. I am disappointed my neighbor destroyed my plot this year whilst removing their shed.

Exactly what I was looking for mate, Cheers. How was the potency (tea)compared to others?

There is a PDF I wish I had still... It talked about a certain organ of p.somniferum produces the majority of m... To summarize, the more inner pod tissue where seeds form the more m. Hens and chicks have the most of any non medicinal cultivar to my knowlege. Hope that helps

Yeah, I could see that. If you could get them going strong and have a good crop I'm sure their yield could be better, much less of the plant is seeds and a lot more of it is that morphine rich pod skin. It does limit your choices to putty/tea.
I will say that I found the plants more finicky and less user friendly in terms of ease of growing though, so buy extra seeds if you're going straight hens and chicks in case there's any issue with germination and die off. I think the seeds might have lower viability due to the mutated, fucked up seed pod and the plant putting all that energy into non-fertile, morphine rich "chicks."
