why use coir verm

I have sampled potencys from many different nute mediums .and I am fairly certain a dung straw sub is the most optimal for most cubes and produces fruits with stronger potency IMO so why do people choose to use a coir verm sub. is it becuz its so noob friendly and forgiving and straw dung takes a little more finesse. or is there more to it. just curious

I doubt the bulk has much of an effect on potency. Yield maybe, but potency is going to be influenced mainly by genetics.

I use coir/verm because it is cheap, quick and easy to prep, reliable etc. I like to pasturize chopped straw and add it into the mix as well.
As far as potency, thats more genetics.. if you grow from multi spore you might do one grow on coir that is low potency and then the next grow will be the strongest cubes you've ever had.
If you want consistent potency isolate and test, or clone and test, and when you find a potent culture that you like you will find it doesn't matter what substrate you choose it will perform as advertised.

I like to add around 30% or so straw
I prep the CVG bucket tek, for the straw I soak it in water and a lil dish soap for a few hours, then I put it in a 5 gal bucket and add 180 degree water.. with the lid on it stays at pasturizing temps for an hour.

Coirs primary advantages are: Availability - Its damn near everywhere. Any pet or gardening store will have it. Ease of preparation- The bucket tek is as easy as pasteurization gets Contamination Resistance- Coir has shown a modest ability to delay the growth of several molds including trichoderma. Thus why the bucket tek is possible. I believe I've read something about Coir's PH having something to do with this. Trich will colonize it, but it takes much longer than other substrates Ratios- because coir comes in an industry standard brick, predicting spawn and water needed is simple.
Coir makes monotubs as simple as they get, while still maintaining good water and nutrient content and density.

If your using coir do you still need to use perlite or can you jus throw some coir verm mix in a tote n break up some cakes in there

You can break up some cakes into the mixture. I've done it successfully a few times and ended up having awesome harvests from PE monotubs with just Coir & Verm, where I just broke up about 10 cakes into two tubs. Just stay sterile

Yes this is called spawning to a bulk substrate, tray or tub whichever The spawn in this case being brf cakes and the bulk sub the coir/verm
If you spawn into trays that will require a fruiting chamber then yes perlite is a good method, if you spawn to monotub style tubs or "dubtub" even then the walls and lid provide the fruiting chamber.
