Leather-dry shrooms
    #21690716 - 05/17/15 02:01 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

So I have about 1/8th that i dried 2-3 weeks ago (maybe longer). I decided that today felt like the right day to eat them. When I go to open the desiccant chamber they have been sitting in, they were more like leather than cracker dry. Im guessing this is because of the humidity weve been having up here after all the rain. They don't smell bad or anything and I threw out the parts that seemed really flexible. DO you think they are still good to eat? Well, actually, I just ate them. But anyone wanna reassure me?

Edit: these were pretty damn close to being cracker dry last week, but never quite made it there, they were probably somewhere between styrofoam and cracker texture.

What's the old saying, no foul no harm?..

They don't sound too bad tho, besides they're only a few weeks old, I'd just look for any furry mold or anything like that.

This is the reason why shrooms should be finished-off in the oven before putting them in storage. They can be taken out periodically and blasted in the oven for a minute or less, then transferred back to storage.
