incubator question and comments..
    #21690547 - 05/17/15 01:12 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

ok so finally go around doing my incubator( my room temps fluctuate too much) i used two 38gallon containers, but not really sure how much water i should put in it? i have it set up now but i think i might of put too much water cause its now a little too buoyant. It is suppose to be that buoyant? or should i take some water out? if i took water out will i still have a nice water barrier on the sides? cause atm its so buoyant that i had to put weights on top of it to sink it down a little bit. I'm just worried that if i took too much the water wont reach up the sides as much.. I could use some of your guys opinions.

THX

I'll help you.
First take it all apart.
box the heater up and return it.  Use bins to store stuff in and forget the idea of incubators haha.
I'm thinking the idea of tit incubators has been out of use for years now
cubes do great in Temps from 60 to 80 IME

I'd do what rye said. You'd have a better chance just colonizing in a cardboard box at room temp if you want it covered. Colonize at temps between 68-80 TOPS. This is still a great climate for mycelium to grow in fast and it's a colder climate for less baddies to germinate in.

Zip tie the top tub to the second so it doesn't float up.

And some people have temps that are below or flat lined on 60 for the majority of the day, worth a bit of heating to save weeks. Then again maybe death420 does already have warm enough room temp.

First off what is your temperature range?

Just get two tubs of equal size, put enough water in the bottom tub so that when you set the top tub in with your jars the water comes up a little less than  half way up the sides. I usually put mason jars in the bottom tub so that my top tub has something to sit on.

Really though fluctuating temps are fine if they dont drop below 60.. seriously unless your house is real chilly the incubator is prolly more trouble than its worth
