Transmission Fluid in Manual Truck??

I want to change a few fluids in my truck with manual 5-speed transmission. Under the hood I have a container for each brake and clutch fluids. both take dot 3 brake fluid. the owner's manual calls the clutch container a manual transmission. however, my owner's guide say the power steering and transmission fluid is MERCON ATF. I don't see anywhere under the hood for transmission fluid. I do see the power steering container. Any help here? This is a 2003 Mazda B3000 3.0L v6 Dual Sport truck.

Look on the tranny. There are probably two big plugs that unscrew near the bottom and middle

I don't think there is a power steering resorption on that truck there should be a dipstick/ openeing to pour it in on the pump itself. It's got a hydraulic clutch so that takes brake fluid but the transmission takes ATF. I'm pretty sure you have to fill the transmission by adding oil through the plug in the side of the transmission you can probably do it with a quart bottle with a spout or just get a fluid pump

crawl under the vehicle. look for oil pan.. after the oil pan will be the transmission where the drive shaft goes into *unless 4 wheel drive.
the transmission fluid on that vehicle is changed from underneath the vehicle not under neath the hood. the power steerring resevoir will be on the front side of the engine compartment where the belts are attached to the pump

Sounds like it's a shiftable automatic, and not a true manual if it requires ATF fluid. If it's a true manual (with only gears) you sure don't want to put ATF in it.

Well I used to have a 1984 Mazda B2000 with a 5-speed manual and it required 90W gear grease. See, ATF fluid is light hydraulic oil.

some manual transmission like it better. cant say ive ever worked on a 3000 but, with atf in mine the trans temperatures stay way down, which is a huge plus on jeeps considering from the factory they run hot.

the owner's guide is right, I suggest mercon 4 and you may want to see if there are any additives required such as a friction modifier additive
power steering systems can take ATF tranny fluid, you can also replace a quart of oil every 4th oil change with ATF fluid, it helps to keep shit clean and wont cause any problems

My automotive knowledge is a bit dated, I will admit and automotive engineering has advanced quite a bit. When I was a little kid, pollution control was in it's infancy and many vehicles still had mechanical points in the distributor. See, I'm kinda an old guy. (turn 50 this summer)

Finaly someone who knows wtf they are talking about. OP get a bottle of 90 wt crawl under the truck take the side plug out and stick your finger in the hole. If you get oil on it you don't need to add fluid. if you don't just stick the spout on the oil in the hole till oil seeps out put the plug back in and you're good to go.
