F*¢k you, contams!

Checked on 12 half pint PE jars the other night only to find that ALL TWELVE were contaminated. Now. I never have contams in my jars. I mean, it's almost fool proof. I won't go into details about sources or names, but they were all MS inoculations with a fresh sterile point. A few of the jars were at 70%, some at 30%, and half at 10%.
I don't give up that easily.
I'm not sure at this point, where the open avenue for contams was, but either way, 12 out of 12 jars? It had to be A: The jars were bigger than my usual ones and 35mins @ 15psi wasn't enough or B: the syringes I got were contaminated.
I decided to try something but expect nothing. After all, this stunt would mess up my entire rotation. I cut out all the contaminated grain, and soaked the colonized parts in a 1:10 peroxide and water acid bath. This shit looked like a science fair volcano project. I did that 3 times and let them soak in mineral water for about an hour while I got the garbage out and bleached everything. Then, I sterilized some 1:1 hpoo/verm with a lil gypsum. Crumbled up the myc and threw it all in a 9x12 aluminum pan with a clear raised lid on it.
I checked in on the "last resort" today and voila! It's colonizing like crazy! It's lovin up that hpoo like a fag falling through a tree of dicks.

The amount of time you sterilized your grain mediums for is a huge avenue for contamination. Grains need to be PC'ed for at LEAST an hour, and a half at 15 psi. Not a mere 35 minutes. The larger the substrate being sterilized, the longer of a sterilization cycle and/or more psi's are required to ensure the center of the substrate reaches 15psi, and is sustained at 15 psi long enough for mold, and bacteria spores to become effectively eradicated too.

Yeah, I totally agree. I can get away with 35mins @ 15psi with my little jelly jars, but now I gotta do half pints for an hour and bags for two hours. I was hoping my PE syringes weren't contaminated-- they look really sketchy. They all came in the mail super germinated and that always trips me out.

I totally will! I'm gonna put a little casing layer on it so it may be awhile, but still, I am expecting nothing from this "last resort."
Quick question, do you think if I isolated and cloned from a pin off this tray, would it have strong contaminant-resistant qualities?

Possible but unlikely and unlikely for you to find out until you grow it over the course of years.

My noob opinion but I have had more luck than one would expect using bac contam'd brf jars, as well as completely spent used brf cakes crumbled to coir/verm. Give it a bit longer than you would expect and watch out for bad smells.

Yeah I sterilize for 2 hours. All my grains. Even little 1/2 pints. Not going to fuck around with contams anymore. Are you sure the syringe wasn't contaminated either? Might want to think about putting it onto agar to see

Both very good ideas. Thanks for the valuable input. I'm looking at it today, and it's bouncing back so quick and fierce I thought it was that cobweb or snowball lookin mold. But when I move the light and look at it from different angles I can see the myc fanning out in every direction. This is also my first use of hpoo.

with a hundred percent contam ratio with someone who usually had decent grows with good sterile technique .i would lean toward bad syringe. to lose all 12 .i mean we all have a bad spell now then .but

Looks and smells good so far. I am astonished by its rigorous growth. My shit never colonizes this fast. I'm starting to like hpoo

Ah casing.
I'm beginning to wish I would've cased my tub. I hemmed and hawed over whether to do it but my laziness and impatience made my decision for me.
I love seeing threads like this. Cubensis has become such a resilient and forgiving species.....You can get screwed from the start and still stand a great chance at managing to pull off a successful grow.
Congrats at your efforts and adaptability in the face of adversity.
