Active Gym?
    #21688439 - 05/16/15 09:17 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

Habitat:
Oklahoma USA found on really old lumber in a somewhat shady spot.

Gills:
Yellow/Orange attached gills.

Stem:
About 1 1/2-1/34 inches in length, 3/8 of an inch in diameter, tan and red in color, somewhat smooth but almost feels like ridges in-between the lines in texture, and solid.

Cap:
1 5/8 of an inch in Diameter, Orange/brown in color, somewhat scaly in texture, spherical and convex.

Spore print color:
Rusty Brown

Bruising:
Blue/green on cap

Is this an active gym? and if so what kind of gym and what is the best way to use these to grow more?

Do you have any idea on which kind of gym it is? Thanks for the verification by the way.

Gymnopilus requires microscopy in the vast majority of cases to be sure of the specific species. That being said your collection looks like it belongs in the Gymnopilus Aeruginosus-luteofolius clade, but again, without microscopy you will never be 100% sure about the species.

Thanks, would it be safe to eat/clone since it came from lumber that may have been treated? Also the lumber is REALLY old probably been sitting there for 15 plus years.

You're welcome. We can't really be sure how safe it is, since you already seem to understand the implications of them growing on treated wood that's your call. I wouldn't make a habit of doing that though even if the wood was 50 years old. Clones should be fine though.

You need to eat a lot of Gymnopilus to feel anything, so unless you have about a dried ounce to munch on it wouldn't be worth it to eat them.
