Early May mushrooms in NC
    #21687981 - 05/16/15 07:01 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

I found these in early May while looking for Morels, attached to a long dead stump so it was impossible to ID the tree. The gills appear to be slightly decurrent.

The stipe is bulbous and tall. I thought at first it may have been someone's attempt at growing King Oysters but the cap is pale with yellowing bruises. I found a few more and watched their progression and the cap broadened to about 5" across.

I think I remember the spores being cream to white.

Any ideas here?

those are beefy stipes!

i think i remember a Pleurotus pulmonarius i found last year getting a yellow cast to it.  might be one of those?

might also consider Pleurotus populinus?
