Apples to oranges man... they are completely different styles. The difference being Hedburg was actually funny most of the time Also it's not like Steven Wright invented one liners and humorous observations of everyday things.

I agree with shroomism, similar style but way different routines, subject matter and joke formation. He has a lot of jokes that aren't one liners, more complex and also having to do with his style, demeanor and delivery.
Mitch was inspired by Stephen Wright as well as many other comedians. He still has a cult following of high brow comics like Louis C.K. He was a comics comic because he perfected his deliveries and unique style that imo makes him just as good and for me funnier then Stephen Wright.
If he would've had a longer career he would be a top comedian like Louis,John mulaney,Jim Gaffigan etc.

Stanhope is my favorite living comedian. A comedians comedian. I see plenty of good acts posted but haven't seen any Patrice O'Neal. Elephant In The Room is pretty good.

You can't go wrong with George Carlin or Louie CK, OP. I personally love each and every one of either's performances.
Hell, when I die, if people really insist on fulfilling last wishes, at my funeral once everyone is sitting down and ready for the ceremony, lights go out, a big projector switches on and 'Life is Worth Losing' will start playing.

Well in all honesty he does have a "Jim Morrison of comedians" way about him, in his speaking mannerisms, the puzzled look etc. Id go see either of them (which might be a little hard unfortunatly)

Patrice O'Neal kicked ass, another RIP. I dont think Ive seen Kevin Hart listed. I know he's on blast now and verging on overexposure but his ability to turn every day stories into hilarity, I highly admire. He'd be a blast to hang out with. In the same context I always wish I'd got a chance too hang out with Farley..

Ok now I see some good arguments, before it was irksome. Agreed many carrier comedians are either dead or moved on to other things, I see CK desperately trying to break into screen writing, and while I like his style I think he ought not write/produce his own shows, he's a manic depressive train wreck.
Speaking of manic depressive train wrecks . . . . We all presumably love Bill Hicks, do we remember denis leary? Leary was my first, I remember hearing no cure for cancer and nearly pissing myself "mowing the lawn and crying - BWAAAA, BWAAA" and "I made a bong outta my HEAD MAN!!!" But then a couple years later I didn't type in "Denis Leary - Jim Fix" I just typed "Jim Fix"; and bill hicks popped up in youtube in stead, this is when I discovered that no cure for cancer was a polished up alloy of nearly every high point of Hicks's carrier, -- Look I'm not trying to rekindle the 'who came first' argument like with wright/hedburg - I'm just paying homage to Leary for introducing me to the wide world of standup comedy firstly. Bill was like a mushroom; wild and squishy, rough and tainted with shit, but down to earth and organic, Denis was like acid, metallic and abrasive, he was a hollywood man from early on, he was excellent in demolition man and natural born killers, much as I hate his stinking rotten guts he was my first - hell I stopped through NYC when I traveled to new england just because of his comedic commentary about the city, I drove FDR drive (A highway with 6' potholes and killer cabbies)

I'm not gonna read the whole thread so I'm sure some of these have already been mentioned. Oh, well
Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson on Parks and Rec) recently released an incredibly hilarious stand up performance on Netflix called "American Ham". As did Russel Brand. Both definitely worth checking out.
Jim Jefferies is one of my current favorites David Cross is all-time #1 Marc Maron's newer releases Doug Stanhope Louis C.K. Jim Norton Todd Barry Bill Hicks (obviously) Mitch Hedburg (obviously) Bill Burr George Carlin (obviously) Hannibal Buress Doug Benson Craig Fergusen's stand-up is surprisingly funny Josh Blue Chris Porter Mike Birbiglia Dana Gould Zach Galifianakis Joe Rogan
And I'm sure tons of others that I can't think of off the top of my head.
