Grafting to peres dos and dont's

I figured I'd set up a thread where people can ask questions about peres grafting and hopefully get answers from people that have experience with this.
I've got a question myself though.
I've been doing ALOT of grafting to peres lately with success, failure and something in between.
I've noticed here lately that when I set a seedling a bit off center I seem to then get a more rapid growth than when I center the seedling. Whenever I have centered the seedling they seem to often take to the new root stock but have nearly no growth whatsoever.
Is this kind of a rule of grafting to peres to off center the seedling or cutting instead of trying to line it up properly?
BTW my Albino Bridge graft seems to be putting on all kinds of tiny spines but the scion doesn't seem to be growing much at all is this kind of normal with Albinos or is something a bit off?

Show your albino man. pics please. For the center thing, it's written everywhere that the graft is optimized if the scion and rootstock have same diameter. It's a vascular ring issue. The more the rings are on each other, the more the scion grows. Anyways, after some time scions seems to readjust themselves and grow at the same rate as scions that took off faster.

Here's the old pic of the albino graft. It doesn't look that much different other than more spines.

Do water frequently
Do not neglect.
That's all I got.

You should always offset the seedling on peres unless its same diameter.

I've done a few "about 3" with the same diameter that are at this moment stuck in limbo for some reason

I think humidity is essential when grafting. I've tinkered with different methods over the years and keeping them in humidity for some time is pretty crucial IME.

I agree. Even though I haven't tinkered around nearly as much as you have ferrel I have tried a few different things to see how they work. and the only thing that has worked properly for me is to have my connecting grafts inside my humidity chamber with wet soil and a heating mat underneath. With that you have humidity Galore

My tub is in the shade. But it's hot here so it's always humid in there.

I've got mine in a clear rubbermaid tub with 4 2ft 6500K lights attached to the lid and a heating mat under the container that holds most of the lil pots the peres are in. Due to the cords I can't shut the lid completely but that seems to do them no harm whatsoever

Gotta love those clear tops. I feel the white ones keep necessary light out.
Anywho, the tiniest piece of pereskiopsis can throw out roots. So long as there is constant humidity. I have several that were tiny buds because I ripped them off other grafts.
I think it was psi that would make pereskiopsis from areoles. Not out from a supple stem.

You know what ferrel I think I've done the same thing. I noticed looking at my grafts today that some of the sprouts that I ripped off below my grafts and just dropped in the soil seem to have uprighted themselves and are holding firm to the soil rooted .
That's fucking awesome!
I think my peres are becoming root bound though. How important is it to continue repotting peres as they plump up their scion?

I don't think it's too critical IME. I've received peres grafts with a big long roots. I just trim them and replant.

Great to know because the peres are shooting roots out of the holes in the bottom of their pots so I was getting kinda worried I would have to replant these 33 "or maybe even more atm" peres sometime soon.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. Pereskiopsis is a strong plant and rarely rots.
2 days ago I grafted 3 days old ariocarpus fissuratus. I'll have to check up on them in a couple of days. I could only do 3 of them because they were the stragglers. The rest had thrown tap roots into the rock crevices so I didn't want to disturb them too much.

Good to know ferrel Thanks
Oh shit I forgot to add that I have a bunch or broken jars that I could plant my lophs in when I break them down a bot more. Would this work alone or would I need to add something else to the mix like ny smooth pea gravel to fill in the holes?

I find pereskiopsis too annoying these times... Since I put some outdoors, they don't do that well.
Too hot => wilting Too sunny => sunburnt Too windy => wilting Too cold nights => wilting fucking slugs
etc...
I'm switching to opuntia as rootstock if my grafts take. These opuntia humifusa are the hardest thing to kill among the whole plant reign.
