Good luck haha it has so many strains in there and they're all on top of each other. Just cut out the place that grew the fastest and it'll eventually start to disperse genetics, and you'll see sectors in a few transfers.
Haha I was just playing around but I doubt I need to tell you mycelium is a mold

No, I'm simply also inexperienced with agar as well, and was looking for sectors.

Nope lol I just winged it. But I'm happy to see you're using agar. Like I said, go where it's fast and thick (not tomentose but not thin and wispy) and healthy. It'll look better in a few transfers.
Basically along the right hand top corner is great

Well shit, I thought it was a fungi - Though I just looked up Mold, and apparently all mold is a fungi?

Middle pic: I'd go to the 12:30 - 1:00 position and take a small (size of a rice grain) piece of agar and put that in the center of a new agar dish.
That's what I would do. Do a few of them. good luck

Alright, round 2. These were taken straight from a stem and not a spore.
are these actual sectors showing up?

Tissue from a stem? So you are working with a tissue clone.
Sectors are different 'strains' of mycelia that are contained within the culture. They radiate out like spokes of a wheel.
Here is a pic of a clone culture (kernel of grain on agar).
can you see the sectors? sample on the left is easier to pick them out. at least 3 sectors here.

The stem on agar pics... Looks like mold completely surrounding ur healthy mycelium. Gunna be hard to make a clean transfer.

Bacteria. Could try pouring hot agar over it and when some mycelium pokes out from the top, loop it out

Ok round three!
Should I transfer a few more times from this one? and where should I cut, do I try to avoid the mass of white completely?
my goal is just to have 10 plates to drop into rye jars. is what I have now good enough to divide onto 10 plates?

hey MAN !
I'm seeing CLEAN growth so I don't think there is a great need to transfer immediately. Let that grow out twice the size it is now and then transfer bits from the leading edges onto your 10 agar dishes.
Looking a lot better.
