mixing thick and thin mycelium

I have a 5grain bag that is fully colonized, lush and thick, and a rye bag fully colonized but translucent in some areas. Would it be ok to spawn both to coir bulk? I wanna make sure i will have enough so i dont wanna use only the thick bag. The thinner bag isnt getting thicker and so i dont wanna wait any longer - i fear early pinning in my 5grain bag.

This is the fuller one.

And here is the thinner, it is even thinner on top but the camera cant penetrate the misty plastic.

Both look fine to me, if it were mine I'd put them in separate tubs though for an experiment. I'm thinking it could just be the difference in grains. 5 grain could just be healthier. A variety of grains is probably better too.

Are they the same strain? Mixing them should work, but it would probably be safer to fruit them separately in case of contams.

My guess is MS genetics....so no....there are millions of strains per bag....
If you are referring to the name some vendor wrote on a certain group of spores, that means little....cubes are cubes.

They are the same strain from the same syringe with equal amounts of cc. My other rye berry bag experienced slower and thinner growth as well, so it must be the spawn. I think will wait a couple more days then spawn to bulk, ok?

You are talking about a syringe full of spores right?
If so, then they are not the same strain.....same group of spores, sure....but technically millions of possible unique strains.
The term "strain" does not have the same definition in mycology as it does for weed.
The term "strain" refers to a single set of genetics produced from just 2 spores. We call this a strain, or monocuture, or isolate.
When you have millions of spores, you have the potential for millions of "Strains". The name some vendor wrote on a certain group of spores means little, for they cannot predict what genetics you will get with said group of spores. They can only assume.
We call groups of spores varieties.

Ahh. Thanks for clarifying that for me. I guess if theres millions of strains in one bag, theres no harm in mixing them with millions of others in another bag that are apparently not as strong, right?
