Help identify San Pedro
    #21684035 - 05/15/15 05:40 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

Hi everyone!
Can someone confirm that's a San Pedro? It's probably not in the best conditions, that's a gift from our neighbour.
Much respect and love to everybody

I'm eager to find out what others think of this myself. It looks like it could be a pedro to me. But the spines are longer than the common variety of pedro available...

Does it look that 'yellowed' in real life, or is that just the pic?

I want to know as well.

It definitely has the right spine formations, but they do seem a tad long. Amd the shape of the cactus itself just seems a bit off, i cant put my finger on it

Yes, the color is pale green. It has grown in a shady place, inside a really small pot.
That could be the reason for the strange color and weird shape?

I have two other little cuttings of san pedro, just placed in their pot and rooting(I hope) and  they really look similar to these ones except for the exact shape and color.

Thank you for your replies, hope to solve the mistery.

Don't worry, we've got some amazing cacti identifiers that reside here in the EG. Someone will identify it for you, or at least give you a solid idea as anybody else could do.
Maybe it's a pedro hybrid with something else.

As for the color, I would guess nutrient deficiency of some sort rather than the light. Usually if the light is too low, they go from fat to skinny as they grow and reach toward the light.

It's a trich. Looks san pedro. But it's highly etiolated and neglected. More light. More fertilizer amd more care. What is wrong with some people? :woah:

Something about it reminds me of a brigesii

Was the cactus grown indoors ?

length of the spines isn't a criteria to identify. We have to identify with the shape of them.
Spine length is dependent on growing conditions. I tried to neglect a peruvianus seedling (tiny amounts of water just not to kill it) and it's growing spines bigger than itself.
I have a neglected outdoors trich that grows 6cm spines and an overcared indoor clone that grows only 0,5cm spines.

First off are we in mexico?

Second off Coco Rice

And Third you need to take some cuttings of that thing and put it into proper conditions by rooting and weening into direct sunlight.

If you follow this you'll have an amazing beautiful plant to work with.

BTW I can tell that when it was younger it was gorgeous before it was neglected "or grown indoors out of good light.

I thought yellowing on pedro was a sign of too much light?

It can be
In this case, the OP states they have been in poor light and small pots, so it is probably fixing for a feed and acclimation to stronger light.

It looks to me to be a red-spine form of a bridgesii.  or perhaps a peruvianus.

I have had some bridgesii, and peruvianus come up with red-spine form. My (best) guess is, bridgesii. Or, inter-grade hybrid.

good luck with it.. With some TLC it should do fine.

WOW, A Trichocereus bridgesii!! We thought it was a Wachuma, but we couldn't believe it since our neighbors were completely unaware of what it was! (They are not careful with plants, but they are good people!).

It was grown outdoor, but in the shadow. Worse than that, it was in a pot with no holes, so I think it suffer for humidity too...

We now put it in a larger pot, and in half sun. In few weeks we will give them fertilizer and move it to full sun.

About the cuttings: it's cutting itself... should I complete the job, or let it be?

Thankyou very much for all the answers!
Love and Respect!

I really hope to post some pictures of a healthy plant in few weeks

p.s.
Choco-rice rules, and unfortunately we are not in Mexico

It isn't T. bridgesii, it is more than likely T. pachanoi
