Friend of mine recently died after taking shrooms...

It's a very sad story and I still wanna call up his mobile to check if it's true - even now after his funeral has been and gone... Anyway he was one of the most interesting guys I've ever met.
I last saw him in early April when I took mushroom tea with him - it was a pleasant trip and probably had the best convo we'd ever had - definitely felt closer to him after that. I spoke to him on the phone a few days later and he sounded good although was demanding a raise at work and was thinking about selling his flat, making changes etc.
Anyway a few days after that, from what I understand he took an unknown dosage of magic mushrooms before going to his local train station. At some point he made two 999 calls saying that he had taken magic mushroom (I assume this shows he was clearly worried and perhaps on a bad trip). An eye witness later said he saw him just standing on the tracks, not moving before being hit by an oncoming train.
I asked his other friends if they think it was a suicide but they all say it seems to have been a accident i.e. he was so out of it he had no idea what he was doing. I'm guessing he took a very high dosage.
Anyway interestingly instead of this totally putting me off shrooms, it has made me want to do them more... like in a way to understand what might have been going through his mind when he went on the tracks, or if he had no idea where he was etc... although I'll be much more cautious about things than he was.
I was planning on growing some anyway to go on some other trips with him but looks like I'll be doing it by myself now.
Thoughts/opinions/ideas?

The set and setting are the most important thing, mushrooms taken in any public setting always turn up horrible stories, they are not meant to be taken in public, they are either at home or camping with close friends, or alone. This is not something the mushrooms did wrong, at higher doses they are supposed to make you go out of your mind, they did exactly as they should have, however tripping near fucking trains is just amazingly stupid unless he was already suicidal.
During a really huge dose on mushrooms I faintly remember standing up and performing strange acts to a crowd that wasn't even there, but I was completely detached from my body and the body was doing all of this on it's own. If he was in that state, he easily could have stood on train tracks completely unknowingly.

I would get my friends ashes (if creamated) and add them to the substrate.
I'm sorry for your loss bud.

I actually feel somewhat responsible here. When he called to meet up and do shrooms, the last time we met, he asked whether I wanted to come over at his flat and do them. I said I didn't want to travel all the way out of town so we should just meet up and do them in London... he mentioned the set and setting thing but I wasn't budging so we decided to do them in London (but together obviously). Anyway I feel partially responsible for influencing the decision to do them in public and neglecting the potential car crash ahead.... :-(

Your title is very misleading, It should of been, 'my friend died because of what he did on shrooms'
I assumed he died because of the actual shroom intake chemically messing with his body. I assumed bad mold, or not actually shrooms. anyways, you scared me for a second person!

The events of the universe will flow as they do, and though you feel that you're a separate entity living in this universe, you are the universe and nothing you do is ever personally yours. Just beneath the idea of what you think you are, there is what you truly are, and at that level there is only one self. Don't feel responsible, you did what you thought was right at that moment in time, nobody could have known he would go tripping near trains. Don't take this world too seriously.

When i read OP.
1st thing that came to mind was "set and setting"
Tmethyl hit the nail on the head.
I would feel no responsibility to guilt OP. It is a tragic story for all parties involved (people on the train, at the train station, the victim, etc) - it is what it is. Unfortunately it doesn't reflect well upon the community.
