Advice for those struggling with mental illness. 1

Ive been seeing a lot posts of people asking for mental illness advice so I figured I would compile my responses into one thread.
My experience with mental illness is this: Depression/Anxiety for as long as I can remember(first panic attack at 4), subject of mental/physical abuse, ED, self harm, suicidal thoughts, violent outbursts towards loved ones/property, and severe PTSD. Although, all the titles in the world dont mean anything to a free mind.
I would not recommend taking any type of pharmaceutical for Depression/Anxiety.
Ive spent my whole life on and off of all sorts of different SSRI/depression/anxiety medications and honestly, they only numb you or give you a false and short-lived sense of hope. Ive also watched my dad take them for 30+ years and he is nowhere near the same person anymore. He can barely function cognitively, and(like many other) has been fighting extreme suicidal thoughts and actions for years as a side effect of his medications. You must take your mental wellbeing extremely seriously and be 100% committed to trying everything in your power to help yourself before turning to a pill that will have negative repercussions. I deeply believe that it puts you into victim mentality(thinking that your only hope is to take a pill..poor helpless you.)
You are a HUMAN BEING! Your mind has incredible healing capabilities if you listen to the cues and act accordingly. If you are experiencing trouble with emotions, that is most likely your mind(or heart, whichever your prefer) telling you you need to lead a different life. What is your everyday life like? Do you chase adventure/excitement? Are you doing something youre passionate about? Do you have at least one thing you are really really good at and can zone out while being alpha as fuck at it? If your body is having trouble accepting the way your life is, you shouldnt cover it up with medicines that help people accept their shitty lives. Dont ignore the cues! Take action! Not only should you not dwell on negativity, but you should actively pursue EMPOWERMENT. There is a huge difference there that I hope you will consider.
Filter your water and add himalayan salt for proper mineral intake, and drink lots of it. Look into supplements. Up your raw vegetable intake to 50-80% of your diet. Organic. If you cant afford organic, then grow it yourself. Outdoors or indoors, the act itself of growing your own food will give you so much happiness. You are made up of what you eat, and if you are eating shit then of course you are going to be chemically imbalanced. EXERCISE EXERCISE EXERCISE. Every.single.day. Run your fucking ass off, hard and fast, till you cry. People think they get enough exercise because they look at the average lazy fuck person(who doesnt do shit) and feel good that theyre doing yoga 5 times a week, but it is not enough. Especially for someone with an overactive mind. It is an insanely empowering high that you get from pushing yourself to the extreme physically. This is going to change your life in ways you never thought possible. People always want an easy way out(and they think the easy way out is going to the Dr...so very very wrong), but your mind is telling you something. Going to see a doctor, they will tell you something is wrong with you and put you on meds that will numb you or even worse(like in my case and many other cases) make you want to die even more. Then what do you do?
Do you know who you are right now? Or are you a product of the momentum of your past? Are you consciously creating your life around you? Do you want everything in your life?(neg or pos..sometimes people unconsciously keep negativity in their lives because it makes them feel something. If so, what does it make you feel? What are you lacking that it makes up for?) Are you reacting to all situations the most efficient way possible? Are you able to observe your emotions objectively without getting swept up in the storm? I would 100% recommend learning your psychology- what makes you tick, what triggers you, what you are lacking or have too much of. This is probably one of the most important things. If you can take notice that you are reacting to the wiring, or faulty program in your brain, you can then work on rewiring or uninstalling the program and replacing it with a updated more efficient one. I know its hard, but if you say you cant and dont take action youre allowing a series of thought processes to be stronger than you. You. A beautiful human being. With the ability to think and create. You are stronger than any thoughts or words.
I also recommend learning how to meditate. It will do wonders at slowing your mind. Its quite simple, yet takes discipline. Then take it a step up and try meditating(in silence, sitting up-with a straight back) on edible marijuana or mushrooms. If after a handful of times you still feel you need some extra help rewiring, I would look into an ayahuasca or iboga retreat. Iboga(which has a 70% success rate of helping heroin addicts, which is what depression is, and addiction to sadness) is a difficult and enduring process, however, if you are capable of keeping yourself calm and are well practiced in meditation, acceptance, and positive affirmations, it can be extremely effective and gives you a much longer time to process everything than aya. Ayahuasca is softer and has a shorter durations but also very effective.
MAKE IMPROVING YOUR MENTAL HEALTH YOUR HOBBY. Your entire life literally depends on it. Learn your psychology and what makes you tick. Practice positive habits. Your brain can adapt to anything you want it to. You dont have to be a label.
LOVE YOURSELF! I LOVE YOU ALL! YOU CAN FUCKING DO THIS!

I like some of your post. I disagree with some of it. For example, the supplement aspect. Do not take supplements unless you speak to your doctor. Specifically, vitamins, unless you have had a blood test, and your doctor tells you, you are deficient in a vitamin, you do not touch vitamins. That is an absolute waste of money and is forcing the body to work overtime for no reason.
Anti-oxidants = load of bulshit, has possibly negative effects Kombucha = load of bulshit
Sciencebasedmedicine.org for all of your questions. I recommend books by Steven Novella, nutritionally/critical thinking ones to enlighten ones self on what works, what doesn't, and what may be harmful to us, as well as why we think the way we do, logical fallacies, etc, that is enlightenment.

Im so glad you like it! I really hope you check out Leo at actualized.org! Watch it in a quiet space with no distractions and take notes on what stands out to you, itll help you notice things in your psyche you had no idea were there. He's also great at helping you pinpoint things that may be holding you back. When I first got into it I would smoke heavily, get into a meditative state, and write. Then I would sober up and it was like everything on the paper was exact instructions for how to get my life together. Truely amazing.
I know some people have mixed feelings about him, but I absolutely LOVE the Joe Rogan podcast. He helps motivate me to exercise and push myself more than any fitness site/blog out there! Also helps me keep a positive no-bullshit attitude )

Thank you! I definitely meant to add in there that one should get blood work done. I'm going to try to get mine done at least a couple time a year!
Why do you think Kombucha is bullshit? I heard it has helpful enzymes or something for your digestion.

Kombucha is not backed by science. Probiotics isn't either. Hypothetically for bacteria to have any effect on digestibility it would have to an extremely large number that we are seemingly not capable of producing and selling in a pill bottle. The amount of bacteria for example found in your stomach that aids in digesting makes the bacteria in probiotics/kombucha look like a few grains of sand, of a beach. The whole beach of sand being what your stomach already has. Of course, it comes with not enough research into the type of bacteria we would need as well. It isn't that it won't be possible in the future, but spending your money is absolutely futile. Of course, people find 'peace of mind' regardless of what science says buying this. So if you absolutely have to, stay away from probiotics that are loaded with multi-vitamins. Be aware, this is all a marketing scheme regarding vitamins/anti-oxidants/probiotics(atm) Any person going to school for medicine knows this. Ask your doctor, 9/10 doctors don't believe in quackery, unfortunately some have superstitions despite evidence against. Similiar to a persons ridiculous religion, like if they believed in Genesis in the bible. Those doctors should be reported in some form. (not for their religion, but for their willing ignorance of medicinal science) I must say, if your doctor does believe in Genesis I would immediately switch to another doctor

Lady, youre too ungrounded.. that will crash if you stop flying. Flying is exhausting.
Let die and be reborn.

I've been dealing with borderline personality disorder, and long term depression as a result, for a majority of my life. I can't keep friends, making them is that much harder. My relationships falter and fail because my mind does.
I'm doing better. But mental illness never really goes away. There are things you can do to help yourself but more often those that are truly ill will find that they will struggle with it regardless of what they do.
Stay healthy. Stay happy. When one falls the other goes with it. But when you fall you just have to find the strength to get back up again.
