Is it a good idea to eat fruit (only) for breakfast?

Hello. A long time ago I had an idea to eat fruit only to replace all the veggies, but someone told me that the high sugar content in fruits would give me diabetes if that was all I ate. So I gave up the idea. But now, I am starting to get another idea. What if I eat fruit only for breakfast? It's only one meal and I still eat veggies for lunch and dinner. I am going to eat fruit anyway so why not combine it with breakfast so that it's one less meal I have to worry about?
I am thinking one avocado plus either banana or orange. What do you guys think? Is this healthy? Thanks.

I've heard a lot about fruit in the morning too. Seems like a good way to start the day to me. My usual breakfast is a banana and a couple hand fulls of almonds.
Sometimes I'll do an egg with some greens, as well.

Whoever told you that is pretty misinformed. The sugar content of fruits can be high but it outweighs the negatives by a long shot. This is completely wrong, because fructose is only harmful in large amounts and it is almost impossible to overeat fructose by eating fruit. Fruit has high fiber content, water content, and resistance while chewing/digesting. Not to mention it is a lot more healthy then any other thing to eat.
Example 1 cup of watermelon contains only 3% of your daily sugar intake. Compared to Honey nut cheerios which has 7% of daily sugar for 3/4 a cup per serving. I don't know anyone who only pours a 3/4 cup bowl of cereal. Adding in the milk you'd probably be around 20% of your daily sugar intake.
The healthiest morning meals would incorporate fruits and a good source of protein. Almonds are a good choice as well as protein shakes, eggs, or other substitute. Fruit also should add to energy levels throughout the day.
In short: fruit is an excellent source of nutrition for breakfast and anyone saying it isn't is wrong.

Thanks to all for replying.
Update: I have decided to add nuts to my breakfast. Now I have banana or orange plus one avocado, with pine nuts, walnuts, macadamia nuts, and cashew ( two of each). I was thinking about cooking oats/oatmeal in a pot of boiling water but decided against it, because it was too much hassle (I don't like to cook). I think my newly devised plan is very inclusive and should have more complete coverage of nutrients than previously. What do you guys think?
I really like my new plan because I won't have to cook.

Steve Jobs was a big proponent of eating just fruit and look at him now, dead from cancer.
In all seriousness though I would not be worried in the least about diabetes from what you describe.

Fruit has a lot of fiber, and digests slower throughout the day than juice, soda and sugary cereal. It's better for you than the other stuff because it doesn't shock your system with all that sugar at once - your body needs to go through the digestive process more naturally.
