Just a question on drying... Thank you

So, I'm assuming that my first harvest will be very soon! I do not have a food dehydrator and I'd be damned if I dip them in honey! Should I place them on a fan where the moisture is pulled or should I make the fan blow directly on them? And I'm wondering how long this will take, 2 days? What deadline will I have before they start rotting? Now I have a question on storage. Freezer, fridge or just a dark cool place? The feedback is greatly appreciated (: thanks much!

A fan will not get them %100 dry, you will need some kind of desicant or heat to finish the process. As far as storing them, just keeping them air and moisture tight and in the dark is what you want. But they must be cracker dry before storing them or you will be disappointed when it comes time to enjoy them

Put a fan on high and put it directly on them for a day or 2. (Until they're spongy) and put them in the oven on lowest setting with the door cracked if it doesn't go below 170F for about an hour to make them cracker dry. Dry to the point where you squeeze or bend the stem and it'll break leaving crumbs of dried mushroom material lol.

Put them in a drying rack with a small fan blowing on them for about 12 - 16 hours. Then put them in a glass jar with a gun rack desicant pack. In a day they should be cracker dry.

never seen truly cracker dry from a desiccant.. I only use desiccant to keep them cracker dry. Storage with a desiccant is ideal but it seems heat is needed to get them truly cracker dry.

Thank you all so much for the feedback! You guys help tremendously. I'm just going run through it one more time just so I have everything clear. Put fan directly on them for 1-2 days until spongy, then put in oven for 150-170°F until cracker dry. Any estimate on how long to keep in oven? Hour or 2? Then store in air tight container or jar with some sort of damp-rid in the bottom? Thank you all so much again! Means a lot (:

Half hour to an hour if it's all done well. Split the stems on the big ones for faster results

Exactly... my buddy thought some of his were dry and bagged them up. He got them out a couple weeks later and they were covered in mold. And the bad part is, he had borrowed my dehydrator to dry them.

I live in a zone 2-3 climate and a fans never gotten them truly dry.. are you sure they were cracker dry? Cause I bet some heat would have shaved off a few extra grams. I know this because I've had mushies in front of a fan for 72+ hours when I got too many at once and they still had to go into the oven or people would complain in a few weeks.

Should I lay foil down on a pan when I stick them in the oven or cover the shrooms with something or just stick them in the oven? Lol so many questions!

I'd put them on a cookie sheet on top rack, set oven at lowest setting, and leave the door cracked.

I guess you have been doing it wrong then. With my way of drying, I've had them turn to dust when you crunch them between your fingers after just a little over a day and a half.

I've had them in an airtight container for 3 days. They definitely felt cracker dry but after throwing them into the oven for 15 minutes they lost 7 grams in a qp. That was water weight. They felt cracker dry, but like I said if you want all the water weight out they need heat.
Mushrooms seem to be desiccants themselves. If there's a splash of water, they all seem to absorb it and get squishy after weeks-months. Which is why I just skip desiccant because 3 days is tedious and it doesn't even take out all the water weight.
Try it. Weigh them before and after going into the oven and I guarantee heat will shave off some grams.
