Geocaching (GPS recommendation)

I am sure we have some geocachers here - So do we have any cool stories or advice on how to get started?
I am looking to buy a GPS in the near future and honestly don't even know where to start....
I have a Garmin rino 530 but no charging station. These devices are notorious for having short lived batteries, and replacements are $50. After a preliminary investigation it seems that I am likely better off just buying a new GPS rather than buying a charging station and battery for the rino. Any thoughts on this?
If I am to buy a new GPS Garmin seems to be the brand to buy - I've had good experiences in the past. Obviously budget is a concern and the Garmin eTrex 20 comes recommended for geocaching.
However, I would like to buy the most versatile device possible - Is it possible to get a device that is suitable for geocaching, cycle touring, and for live mapping in a car?
What considerations should i be taking under consideration when searching through these (battery life, power adaptors, mounting systems, maps packages...)? Are there other reputable brands?

Oh no worries - Geocaching is pretty popular these days, I am surprised you hadn't heard of it. It even takes place inside large metropolitan cities FYI + you can do it with a smart phone!
I am looking forward to an excuse to go to wilderness areas I haven't been before, which in turn will allow me to practice another new hobby; photography.
Kill 2 birds with one stone, ya know?

Word.
I've heard of hidden usb drives in random locations. But this geocaching is more up my ally. Wilderness.
I did some "googling" and apparently there's several locations nearby in a state park.

wow, you're so hardcore bro. sorry us casuals ruined all your fun. i guess its too popular and mainstream for you now.
there arent all that many around me considering i live next to a park with tons of woods. there are more in the city
and plus, you can narrow your geocache search for only 5/5 difficulty/terrain ones. there arent many of those at all, at least within 10 miles of me.

ah, thanks for clearing that up. so in other words you never actually did like geocaching or the idea of it. sounds like if it werent too many of them, you would just complain that there werent enough.
did you ever actually try it out? or did you make up that part where you used to " search like a 1000ft radius trying to find fucking things"?

my phone works great for a GPS. i have a garmin in the car that works well too
just took a stroll through the woods nearby my house and found the closest cache with my phone GPS. it was a small clear pelican case. signed the log and left an origami ring made from a 1$ bill. although the ring got a little crumpled in my pocket along the way there wasnt anything worth taking. just a bouncyball, a tiny plastic car, pen, stickynotes, and an empty book of "axe" matches

I recently bought the garmin gpsmap 62stc. I bought it for the topo maps and so I can locate mineral claims. It'll keep me from panicking when I get lost too. It has a geocache function but I don't know shit about it. I'm sure it'll do everything you need. There are lots of downloadable maps available for it too. It might be overkill for what you want to spend though.
