Hey yall! I bought some T. Peruvianus, T. Pachanoi, and T. Bridgesii rootings off of ebay. Each ones a little over 1" with the biggest being 1.5". They'll be here in a few more days and I need to start getting myself prepared! What soil media should I use? and I heard humus could be used in the Peruvianus's soil, could I use humus from under neath leafbeds out in the woods behind my house and should I pasteurize it or sterilize it? If theres any teks out there for cacti yall could point me towards that would be great too, I can follow a tek damn good!

Avoid the humus and peat moss at all costs , it holds to much water if I remember correctly.
I grow all my columnar cactus in Coco coir & perlite.
If you can get access to turface(stuff they use on baseball fields or pumice) that would be suitable for drainage as well.

My soil mix for trichs is perlite, vermiculite, some sand and small pebbles/rocks, and potting soil (30-40% of the total mix). My trichs seem to do well in it, but other people here do well with their trichs in different mixes as well so I wouldn't sweat it too much as long as you make sure to have some drainage so it's not holding lots of water for long periods.

I have not been able to find coco coir here this year. It usually shows up at the beginning of the year and then slowly gets bought up and then it's gone til the next year. I guess not this year.
If you must use peat, add half perlite for better drainage.

I wasn't able to find it last year either but like you said maybe I started too late, was asking around in july and people had no clue what I was talking about.

I have not been able to find coco coir any place other than hydroponic shops , usually the big box stores carry bulk bags but I've been searching different cities for the past 2 weeks and leave empty handed. Its funny that coco is hard to find in both our states but I'm sure it will show up eventually. I hope.
The time i substituted coco coir with peat moss it transformed the section in my garden bed into a boggy wasteland where my hand was able to reach half way down in the dirt. Besides sedum and sempervivum --my peat moss section is uninhabitable for trichs.
I assume peat moss is easier controlled in pots with excellent drainage oppose to the ground where peat does what ever it wants if the drainage isn't optimal.
Perlite floats(not root beer floats) and Pete became a swamp-- so IMO the two werent a good combo for me in the ground.
Give it shot in the pots & may the best luck of luck bite you in the ass OP

I like thw peat and coco mix. Lots of perlite added too for trichs. That seems to do the best.

Sweet thanls fo he info guys. I went to my local homedepott to pick up some supplies. while I was there I picked up another t. Pachanoi its two in one pot, pretty good size too. the big one is 10 3/4" the other is 6 3/4". How should I go about transplanting it into a new pot? I picked up some perlite, I have coco coir, I also got some premixed cacti mix composed of peat, sand, and perlite. should I add all that together plus some verm for a good draining mix?

Ended up going with a brick of coco coir to 8 quarts of perlite with a two small scoops of gypsum (cause why not ) and about a quart of the premade mix so that I didnt feel like it was a waste of money lol

It was half coco half miracle gro potting soil. Though I'm done with that mix. Mainly im trying to cut ties with monsanto. Unless its organic and OMRI listed. picked up a 3 cubic ft bag of fertilome ultimate potting mix instead.

It can be amended with coco and more perlite to create a more neutral mix for trichs.

Heres the one I bought today repotted into a bigger pot since it had grown out the 8" it was in. I put a layer of pea gravel at the bottom to help the drainage and put some ontop of the soil just cause I like da way it looks haha. at what point should I start giving them liquid fertilizer? And what should the nutrient ratio be?

If they're already rooted then I'd say you can give them liquid fertilizer now, dilute it a bit so it's not too much at once. Most of the guys here say you want a low nitrogen fertilizer. I haven't used liquid fertilizer for my trichs yet, have just let them get nutrients from the potting soil that's part of my mix. Since you went with a mostly non-organic mix you'll probably need to fertilize more often but I'll let the pros answer that for ya.

I never find anything good at my local HD. Sometimes but rarely a pachanoi at Lwes. Find my blue myrtles at wally world. Today I found a treasure of a blue myrtle. Usually they come three 3-5 inch cacti in a small pot. This one had five heads. I took it home, repotted it. Turns out, one plant is 4 heads, with a tiny pup started, the other piece was a single barrel.
