How many hours do you pasturize hpoo for?
    #21680296 - 05/14/15 07:18 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

With 5 gallons of leeched hpoo in a turkey bag, I was told that 10 to 12 hours would do the trick in killing any non-beneficial bacteria. A old friend who has been cultivating for many years said this to me I was just looking for some word of advise from any experienced mono-bulk growers who did much less time than that and if you had a success rate below 80%. 10 hours seems like too much in my preference I don't feel doing less time if the core of the 5 gallons wouldn't maintain the 170 degree temp for long enough. thanks for the thread view

That's retarded. Don't listen to him cause that would do a lot more harm than good. It doesn't need much heat.. just enough to kill the baddies and not too much to kill the goodies. I use jars and get internal temperatures up to 140-160 and maintain for 1 hour. Definitely above 90% success rate so far. Check my sig.

Damn your sig thread is lookin nasty man hahah.. I had the feeling that he was telling me things just to throw me off course at times. Perhaps 10 hours kills off the beneficial bact. too since many of the bulk I had took too long to pin even with no contams, ill have polyfil looser on the next ones that I pull thru on tomorrow, FAE didn't seem the best. thanks for your help Mad Season!

Yeah seriously. Even 1 hour at 140-160 kills 75% of the good stuff or so said RR in a thread I read long ago. You need the good stuff to fight off all contaminations and provide protein for the mushrooms. You'll be surprised what less heat will do. I think in azurs signature it shows a chart of what happens if you over heat or under heat your substrate.

Another key thing to think about is certain species that are considered to die at high temperatures, if exposed to 120 for a week or 2 will die. Length of time exposed to heat is just as important as the temperature it's at. Which is why 1 hour of pasteurization is perfect.
