Dog has bone cancer * 1
    #21679431 - 05/14/15 04:01 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

Really sucks, hes only 9 and still full of life. He started limping so we took him to vet and she says amputation of his leg is needed immediatly and even then there is no gurantee... Not sure what we are gonna do, but hes on pain meds and im pampering the hell out of him!

I think its the shitty pet food. Going to look into an organic diet for my dog and the fam cat

What kinda pain meds? How is your dog getting cancer a bad thing if you get pain meds that you can take?

I remember when my dog got cancer, they gave her tramadol and I was just like HA no way and ate all of it, no point in wasting good drugs on some dumbass animals

certain breeds are more prone to Osteosarcoma than others, like rotts for example.  Sorry to hear that.  It will get worse in a short amount of time.

Is it a front or rear leg?  They get along better having rears amputated.  Also weight is an issue with amputation.

Bone cancer is serious. At 9 years old I would consider putting him down.  Sooner than later as it is extremely painful.  Im am very sorry

Sorry, OP:hug:
He's a good aged dog, though.
If he has to go in a little while, then it sounds like he had a good run at it.

Do what you gotta do.
Few things more painful than losing your dog

Good luck, man

Ruuuude. Mister sandman heroin enthusiast. That says it all right there. Fuck that guy. I'm sorry about you dogs leg. I would say his age has more to do with it than the diet at this point though. What kind of dog?

OP seriously this a prime oppurtunity to stock up on trams (assuming that's what they're giving your dog since that's what they usually give dogs for pain)

Forget your stupid dog and look to the future, the future of gettin high on tramadol:thumbup:

Yea, some food is downright awful for them. Not to name names, but a brand that rhymes with Halpo is basically equivalent to feeding them mcgoobies every day.

I'm truly sorry to say this, but it would be better to have your dog put down.

Bone cancer is extremely painful and the cancer treatments are very strenuous. Don't let your dog suffer...

I don't like suggesting stuff like this but I agree. I had my dog put down last year for a similar reason; they use propofol and I think a barbituate, they go extremely peacefully. I had a very bad experience with my beloved german shepherd about 2 years ago where I didn't want to let it go, and it was extremely cruel of me to do; I'll never do that shit again :frown:

Dude, you're being a real dick. Tramadol is known to lower the seizure threshold. I've done upwards of a gram and didn't seize. Doesn't mean it wasn't more likely for me to than normal.
And dogs are usually loved by their owners. Only a piece of shit takes medicine from their dog that needs it.

Not really.  You are advocating that somebody steal a cancer patient's meds so that they can get high (I do not care that it is a dog).  Huff some more Pam.  It's over the counter.

If its already metastasized please dont drag out the inevitable. No one ever tells you what its like to die from cancer. Its the single most languishing way to die out there. Period.

This is a piece on what its like to lose a loved one from cancer. Bone cancer is objectively the worst one to die from. Dont put your dog through that. Unlike us they have an option for an easy death.

Bone cancer is serious. At 9 years old I would consider putting him down.  Sooner than later as it is extremely painful.  Im am very sorry

My first dog was a rottweiler and we had to put him down almost a year ago. That dog was my smoking buddy growing up and always had my back, always knew when I had a bad day. I remember when I was doing dope and dealing with the reality of withdrawls that dog didn't leave my side. He was "the family" dog but I bonded with that fucker more than anyone else, plus I picked him out of the litter because he was the only one running off to fuck with shit. Only dog of that litter to not die of parvo too. We were told he had a brain tumor when we noticed his eye was collapsing in, as soon as that happened I saw it as an excuse to bring weed over to my parents place (big backyard that he loved just chilling in, studio is no place for a rottie) and smoke him out. He would smell it as soon as I walked in the door and start sniffing at my pockets for the goods, he knew what was up. 6 months down the road hes still kicking it and the tumor shrunk down to where his eye was normal. He got hit with bone cancer in his back leg 6 months after that. I had to make a decision to have him put down midway throw my shift at work. Probably one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make OP. Spend time with him. Make him as happy as possible, and say your goodbyes. I remember how my dog was when his legs started in... Wasn't pretty to see. No quality of life.

This is an offer right?

If he doesn't want to put the dog down that is his option. But he is prolonging the inevitable. It's not a nice thing to see an animal you consider family suffering.

I believe you have your priorities exactly right and hope somebody does the same for me when the time comes.

Be nice to OP, this is a really hard thing. I just put my 18 year old cattle dog down two weeks ago for the same reason. Cancer had just ate away at his bones. But he had such a heart. He never wanted to give up. Finally I made the choice that it was better to do it with dignity and I remember hearing his last breath after the vet put him down. It was a very hard thing for me. I put his body in my backpack and took him to the nature preserve that we used to walk in and buried him. I go visit him everyday and put a rock or two down. He was my best friend, so I can totally relate to the OP. It was one of the hardest things in the world for me to do. I wish you well during this hard time.
