Lots of Panaeolus subbalteatus (Hi Res Pictures)
    #2164810 - 12/06/03 05:08 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

Well, my patch started to fruit again. Enjoy the pictures!

Here's a habitat picture...notice the steam coming out of the compost

One of my favorite pictures I think. These are Psathyrella gracilis.

And I think these are Galerinas. I didnt really look at them much, just took a picture. I like the water drops to the left of the mushrooms

Just wanted to point out a few things to those who are looking for these mushrooms. First of all, you'll notice the stems have a furry like appearance to them. Those are small white fibrils which I notice on most all of the specimens I find. Secondy, the gills always have a white edge to them. They were growing in a large manure heap shown in the habitat picture above.

As always, your photos are breathtaking. Good to see the Pans again. Have you hunted cyans down there at all?

Very nice patch.. Very common on the West Coast from the north of California through the Willamette Valey in Oregon.

Best photos I've seen of patches I have seen before years ago. Lost a lot of pictures moving to Seattle.

Thanks

Nope, I have not hunted Cyans around here. I'm pretty sure that they do not grow this far south, however I wouldn't be too suprised to find them one day.

I went looking for liberty caps as well, however I heard they wont grow south of San Fran either.

Guess I'll just have to keep my eyes open.

they are more of less common all the way south to central california [and maybe a bit lower], providing you don;t look to far eastward.

angry: i'm happy to see you finding Subbs at this time of the year

make sure to take lots of pictures. i have no expectations of finding them this year in my area, but i'll be looking into some nice habitat for mushrooms in general if ever i have the time before it freezes, as i'm still trying to get a better idea of the overall distribution and diversity of mushrooms here.

haha!

I dont know Seril, I dont think anyone else has found this patch. I dont know if anyone will find it either. Its pretty far off the beaten path.

I'll tell you one thing...its not in Wilder, its not even near it..its past Scotts Valley (going inland).

concrete, were you talking about Ps. cyanescens or liberty caps. I would love to find one of the two. I've been looking in all sorts of mulch and wood chip beds the past two years and haven't found a thing. I've heard talk of liberty caps not growing in my area.

As much as I hear that they are a common occurance in North America, we really do not see many posts of the findings...

All I got to say is that you have to look for some horse manure.

lol...Gumby, you're pictures own me!!

Yes, I did use a flash. It was so damn dark outside that I had no choice. I took about 50 pictures and these were the ones which came out "good".

I have the gracilis picture as my background now...Its my favorite picture I've ever taken. Of course, the original 550kb picture is much better than the scaled down one !!

Well I hope to find more mushrooms this year. Im so happy that the mushroom season finally started here.

Ganja: Yes, its the same patch... This time I came much earlier than last year. There wasn't as many this time, but, I imagine that the next few weeks there will be some large blooms!
