First time, it looks a little weird... am I doing this right? (PICTURES!)

Hi! First time grower here - I've lurked for quite a while trying to decide if I wanted to try doing it myself and finally went for it I've read many beginner guides and tried to have a set-up as ideal as I can for starting out. Any suggestions for improving/changing would be greatly appreciated!
Just a small operation going on right now. I had 3 jars of Birdseed/LGBR/Verm in half pint jars which I let fully colonize, then consolidate for another week (about 3.5 weeks total). I noticed that the mycelium looked pretty puffy in two of the jars when I took them out - I didn't see any sign of contamination so I went forward.
Dunked for 24 hours, put some damp verm on the top, and placed them on the pint lids filled with damp verm, and placed them in my SGFC which looks like this:

Filled with 5 inches of damp (wet??? it's not dripping but I definitely soaked that stuff in a strainer) perlite at the bottom. Placed it on top of a wire (not being used) dog kennel so I could have some air flow from up underneath - the whole thing sits 3 feet above the floor. It's right next to the sliding glass doors of my balcony, definitely getting 12 hours of indirect natural light a day. The hygrometer has a low humidity because I had just opened it up and fanned before taking the picture - it's above 95% most all of the time.
Here's a look inside:

It's been 4 days of misting/fanning about 4-5 times per day... but no pins I'm not sure if I'm just paranoid or if this is typical?
Cake #1 (Golden Teacher Strain)

This looks pretty normal to me - please correct me if I'm wrong! Lots of knots but no pins yet.
Cake #2 (Deep Delta Blue (from a local company where I am))

This looks a little funny right??? I read that puffy white means not enough FAE - I've upped my fanning but it keeps getting puffier! Is this contam?
aaannnddd the one I'm most worried about -
Cake #3 - Also Deep Delta Blue. This one looks crazy and I dont know what's going on. lol.

it started out a little puffier than the rest but ever since I put it in the SGFC it's gone a little crazy? Also no pins on this guy.
I'm not quite sure why they're growing differently since they're all in the same place... maybe just strain variation? If anyone with more experience has some insight, that would be awesome!
Thank you!

I dont know why that blobs appear but you will be fine. I had them too. Once you pick you 1st flush you can pick that blobs too and then dunk and roll with verm. 2nd flush will be better then 1st with that bloby ones.

I have seen cakes do that when they are in a dry climate and are not getting enough moisture. It is like a scaly build up that occurs when they are not getting enough water. How much water are using for misting? You should probably be using 3oz of water every misting.
Also, you may want to mist & fan only 2 to 3 times a day. Continuous fluxs in the environment can stress the cake.

Hmm, I'm not sure - I will usually mist until I can see the little water droplets barely beginning to form on the cakes. I'll measure out 3 oz from now on and try that!
I've heard mixed reports on the frequency of fanning/misting - but I'll see what cutting down to 3x a day with more water will do for me.
Thank so much for the good info!

i dont think it is like that, i am living a city near a sea. RH never goes down %50 also i have dunked them 24 hours and rolled them after, i misted them 2-3 times a day also i was using perlite and a humudifier. so i dont think atleast my bloby problem wast related to RH.

this is one of them as you can see it is very wet, also you can see the humudifier next to it.

Yeah I know what you're all talking about but cake #2 and #3 definitely looks contaminated to me. #2 the honeycomb look in the blob and #3 the gross patch on the top corner of the substrate
#1 looking good but they all look dry..
There's no set amount to how much you should be misting. It's not exactly 3 oz at 2pm.. it's mist when they look dry. Keep them glistening wet 24/7. The perlite (which is most important to keeping them wet) should be MINIMUM 5 inches deep and damp at all times.

Oh no!!!
Any idea what kind of contam, or what can be done at this point? Would it be better to toss them and just keep #1?

It's honestly hard for me to tell you 1 way or the other. I don't know what contams they are.. but I've never seen mycelium like that before which is why I'm saying contamination. My rule is not to mess with any contaminations I don't know so if those were mine I'd either isolate and bring them outside/to my shed to continue fruiting them or bury them. The GTs look ace to me though

It could me a contam, or to little FAE. My first SGFC had not enough holes and all my cakes mycelium was growing weird. Not quite as weird as yours though, that's why it might be contamination, but I did end up building a new SGFC and my cakes started to grow pretty normally.

whenever I run into a contamn that I'm not too sure about I just give it away with most contam smell pretty f****** bad and healthy mycelium smells like fresh mushrooms

Sounds like a good idea. I'll probably separate those two, build a new SGFC, put them in and see what happens. Here's hoping they turn out okay
Looking at some other pictures it does appear that mine look dry so I gave them a really really thorough misting and added another inch or so of wet perlite.
Thanks for the advice!

I did try that! It smells the same as when I birthed the jars - very mushroom-y, even the weird white puffy parts - those probably smell the most like mushrooms lol. But maybe there just isn't enough contam yet?

i think it is bacterial too. but i got 5-7 flushes from that cakes so dont worry about blobs. like i said when they give you the 1st flush pick that blobs with mushrooms then dunk and roll the cakes with verm. you are good to go

Well i guess when in doubt throw it out but that would be a waste lol try isolating for a couple days and keep checking for that putridly sharp moldy bread smell

I've never heard of the Delta Blue variety before. It looks like it could be a mutation of blobs. You don't need to measure out how much you mist as it will vary. Let your cakes tell you whether they need misting or not. Check out this link for a reference.
It could have benefited from a longer consolidation period. 1 week is the minimum. 4 days is nothing to worry about as far as pinning goes. Sometimes it can take up to 2 weeks. I would give it time. Personally I don't see contam but that's just my 2 cents.
I'd pick the blobs, dunk, and hope the second flush produces some nice fruits.

Yeah that isn't blobs. It's heavy tomentose, I've seen it from 3 things. Genetics, bad environment(fae and rh) and bacteria. The 2nd pic might not be contaminated.. a brown honeycomb look is definitely worrying, but the 3rd pic on the top off-center to the left is definitely contaminated.

I've never seen a cake so puffy! I assumed it was blobs. Interesting. I'm guessing there's nothing he can do about it?
