I can't type much, cause I'm in the dirt. Tryn to procrastinate, I'd sVe. as many lateral roots as I could yesterday.. Now I came across a taproot that's prolly 9 inch down when I found it thTs something like 18 to 20 inches round... I really respect thAt girth n can't let I'd get hacked to bits n die!!!! Some1 pls get back to me!! Got maybe 15 mins.....

What are you talking about dude. Does the trich have any issues that your trying to save it from "Rot, Rust or pests" If not why are you digging it up?

As best as I can translate it, he was saying he's trying to save an old pachanoi stump that people have hacked most of it away, and he's wondering how much of the root stock he needs to dig out.
To answer your question, I wouldn't worry as much about the lateral roots, save as much of the main tap root as you can but without knowing how much of the column is left it's hard to say.
At any rate, it sounds like this advice is too late since you only had fifteen minutes to save it from harvesting/demolition.
