I found out there were ants crawling around my jars and i found one ant stuck a jar filter. Now a few days later i have this. What is it ?
It looks like a collection of tiny black dots.

Those damn ants. Idk what it is but it's definitely not mycelium and is contaminated.

I even live in 29 floor. Ants should stay down lol. Sometimes i won't see any ants for a few months. Then suddenly they are all over my spawn. Put the jars inside a plastic bag and closed it

How would they have access to the inside of the jar?

It's a nylon sponge filter. I bought it from a pet shop, it's for aquariums. It's a bit course tbh.

I follow the Rye Berry prep from SpitballJedi. I have made 16 jars of spawn in total and 2 of them have been contaminated with this black mold after i saw the ants. Last batch had 1 case of bacterial and one case of green mold.

I threw it in the trash and cleaned the jars with bleach. I also danced a jig. Hopefully I won't see it again.

I used to breed tropical fish. I know what these are, and they're far from suitable for a GE filter. Have you had success with them in the past?
Why not just use polyfil, tyvek, or better yet, synthetic/cellulose filter discs?

Yeah, it have worked a bunch of times. But, probably not the best since ants can just crawl through it. I struggled so much already to get all the stuff i need for growing. I'm an expat living in SE Asia and things are just so hard to find. For example I used many hours scouring stores for agar agar when it's in fact called Gulaman here

If you want, maybe we can work out a deal where you paypal me some cash and I send you a box of goodies filled with polyfil, some jar lids, some tyvek, etc.
I'd just want to be reimbursed for the cost, I'm not looking to make any cash.
I feel you on where you are though. I spent some time in Mexico and it was hard to grow.
