Is it normal for a Pressure Cooker to get black on the inside bottom as well as the canning rack. I have a 23 quart presto, and it seems that the black is only up to where the water line is. I have only used it 3 times so far and i did take the proper cleaning procedures that the manual stated before using it.

Weird, do you run out of water before you take it off the stove? Are you in the city or country? Whuts yer water like?
I had a presto and never had a problem with it.

Sounds a little strange.
Make sure you have enough water in there.
I have had foil covering the jars turn black before, but never the actual pressure cooker.

My pressure cooker turned black on the bottom too. It doesn't really cause a problem, but I have found that it can be removed fairly easily with a little bleach water and a brillo pad.

the black deposit on the inside of your pressure cooker is coming from hard water. but always make sure you have plenty of water in it when PC'ing. if you have 2 piece lids, put a piece of foil in between the ring and the sealing top. then you can add a little more water to make sure it dont boil dry.

I lost my rack thing that keeps the jars off the bottom. What should I use instead?
