Hi there, I need a little help here :-) I Am about to make som CVG bulk substrate, following SpitballJedi´s tec ( see link 2 at bottom) He advises to use garden or horticulture gypsum, so I have bin around a garden center or two asking for just that. Thing is, They all lookt strang at me asking me whey I would need that, and when I told them that it was for regulating the pH of my soil, they all said that they had newer heard about using gypsum for that...You should use lime.
however, I am abel to get gypsum that is ment to repair things. So here comes my question:
Is it OK to use this gypsum product: https://www.brico.be/nl/bouw-materialen/bouwstoffen/gips-en-voegpleister/knauf-snelgips-10-kg/2398013

gypsum doesn't change the soil ph but it's great for the soil. lime changes the soil ph
most garden stores won't have gypsum building stores might and brewing or wine stores would.

Weird. I get my gypsum from the feed store I get my oats from. I used to use drywall but never again. Never realized it was so hard to find :/ all you're looking for is calcium sulfate. If you have a feed/farm store check it out. Farmers need gypsum in bulk so it's bound to be where the farmers go.

Agricultural grade gypsum sourced at a brewing store, but not at a garden store??
Agricultural grade gypsum is sourced for this cultivator at a locally owned "plant, and nursery" store. Retail, each 40 pound bag goes for about 9$. Lime is used in soils to effectively raise PH, correct. Gypsum is used to sustain PH in soils. For our hobby, gypsum is used to add calcium, and sulfate to the mushroom mycelium in all stages of growth, as well as to aid in the non-clumping of grains after a run through the PC.

Drywall (not the fireproof stuff)... or buy the bagged stuff online of you can't find it in a store.
If you get a big bag it's usually fairly reasonable.
I got 20lbs of lab grade for like $15 shipped on fleabay.
I know, that's still kinda expensive, but it is super soluable.
Have been using the same bag for over 2 years and still have quite a bit left so it was worth it to me...

I ended up getting some CaSO4 from a beer brewing supplier. It was pricey, 15 USD for 4.5 lbs plus an additional 10USD for the shipment, but unlike buying som kind of construction gypsum I do at least know what it is 100% CaSO4 I am buying :-)

Gypsum can be found at any gardening store or farm feed supply. Carefully inspect any construction grade gypsum. I saw a bag once where it was mixed with flame retardant. Wouldn't want that in my grow.
This is what I use http://www.walmart.com/ip/37012469?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=83&adid=22222222227024738182&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=52641820511&wl4=&wl5=pla&wl6=84528627551&veh=sem

A square of gypsum board at home depot is about five bucks. Just take a hammer to it, then throw the small pieces in a blender or food processor. My Lowe's doesn't carry it, lame.
