Handling jars

My jars are on a shelf in my living room, would these be okay to handle with my bare hands or should I still wear gloves to check on them?

I use bare hands but I'm sure there's people who'd do it with rubber gloves or some bs. Realistically if you did it right, the filter will keep contams out.

I use cellulose based 90mm filter disks on my jars. They should be fine and keep contams out. I was just wondering if I can quickly handle with my bare hands for pictures and inspection instead of having to wear gloves all the time.
I mean they are already in an uncontrolled environment so I guess there shouldn't be any increase in contam risks

You got it! they'll be fine. Just don't drop them or handle them too much

Thanks man!! wait a few more days I'll have more canopies going up. 6/20 trays are pinning right now and they're looking a lot better than the first, and 1-3 will be done in like 2-3 days.

Super jelly!! I am waiting for my B+ and remaining non-infected ecuador jars to colonize 100% and then it's time to spawn to bulk for the first time.
I am really nervous. Could you link me to a good thread for sniff tests and how to maintain a monotub?
I am not sure what I need to do once I spawn to bulk, whether to keep it in the dark or not..etc

It's actually really straight forward. What's your tub size? Are you doing coir (cvg)?
A 66 qt tub should have 4 1.5 inch holes on the bottom and 2 1 inch holes on top. Keep them taped during colonization. Light or dark room doesn't matter. When it's time to fruit (doesn't matter when, right at 100% or consolidated) check out this:

I have a 60L storage tote box and it's already constructed with 2 holes on each side at 1.5" in diameter and 2 holes front and back on the top also at 1.5" in diameter. I am using aquarium filter wool which is made from polyster fibers.
I plan to use a ratio of 1:2 spawn to sub. I don't have quarts as I am from Europe but I am using 450ML jars. As a calculation I tried to use mathematics but I kept going around in circles so I finally used the water level technique, counted how many 450ML jars it would take and than divided by 3 which gave me a ratio of 14 spawn jars : 29 jars of substrate
As a substrate I plan to use CVG with the addition of coffee grounds and plan to use mudafuka's improved bucket TEK which also has pastuerizing.
At first I was gonna go with damnion's bucket tek but I was reading a discussion initiated by SBJ on the relation of bucket tek vs proper pastuerizing and the risk of contams with these two methods. There was a lot to read and it got me paranoid that perhaps a simple bucket tek won't be enough.
It does sound very simple spawning to bulk but for some reason I am paranoid that I will mess it up. Loads of factors come into mind, the first is how will I know for sure that what I am sniffing is mushrooms and not bacteria
My mind right now :

Bacteria is RANCID. Makes me almost barf thinking about it. Bacteria is only a spawn problem. Once in bulk bacteria isn't an issue. The substrate has beneficial bacteria that'll fight it off. You're concerns would be looking for cobweb or trich. Smell the jars before using them. Make sure they smell like mushrooms (you'll tell if they dont)
As a first timer I'd HIGHLY recommend you don't use coffee grounds. CVG can be done brilliantly with the bucket tek alone. Coffee is just as bad as manure. It'd need to be pasteurized properly giving you a contam vector.
Your substrate, ratios, and polyester/holes sound spot on for everything. I use polyester stuffing and just remember there's lots of people with too loose bottom holes. However too tight, you'd probably have to break your thumb to stuff the bottom holes too tight.

Its hard to tell the difference between cobweb and actual mycelium. I post on here often for check ups on my jars cause I am always paranoid that something might have gotten in.
How is manure bad? I thought it was highly recommended for improved yields and density, I was hoping to use the coffee grounds for an extra nutrient boost and potency or did you mean it's not a good idea for a first timer?
If so I'll take your word for it. I want this to be successful before the summer months come rolling by.
I am guessing when it comes to smell I should look out for that humid mushroom smell, the kind that smells like basements lol
I am not sure how tight the bottom ones need to be but I am guessing if I have to break my thumb to be too tight I shouldn't have any problems.
That visual guide on dialing monos really helped and put things in perspective.
Just another 20% and we should be good to go for bulk spawn

I only use manure. However coffee and manure are both loved by other molds and will get hit hard unless pasteurized properly. Coir and verm seems to be so resistant to contamination people can spawn it without any pasteurization. Just added water. Some people can sterilize it too. CVG is just so noob friendly. If I were you I'd stick to it and just try pasteurizing it. If you mess up it'll still be good. Add coffee/manure when you've got a good technique for pasteurizing your cvg
It took me a quite a few tubs and trays to get manure pasteurization right. It'd have been nice to practice with coir so if I messed up it wouldn't have all gone horribly wrong like it did in the past. Nothing worse than watching all your work getting dumped

Thank you for the motivation!
I plan on making a write up on how I got things done as well as the monitoring of my grow, teks I used...etc it will have pictures of everything I did, grain that contaminated, why...etc and eventually my yield
But first I will see if I get any yield hehe
This is my journal entry but it is not entirely updated
