Hi there, still fresh at this, found a small patch of subs I think, I wasn't convinced at the start as I didn't get much Blue on the stalks, just a little on the caps, they are a more solid yellow rather than the 2 tone colour I had with the first patch I found, can the colours vary on the caps a little?
Could someone with experience give me a ID if thats ok. thanks Heaps

nice.
all Psilocybe subaeruginosa
you should try and leave the smaller ones to grow bigger and sporulate before you pick.

Thanks everyone for the ID. I thought the small ones would have been mature enough to get a spore print but I guess not. I did leave about 3-4 for the next lucky forager, I wont be able to get back there for a while now. Do you all generally do spore prints every time to be sure or are you confident enough to ID just by the eye? Thanks again for the input.

by eye.
they are a very distinctive fungi, can get a little unsure when they are water logged.
i always print the healthier specimens, not for id, but to collect spores for repopulating areas.

is waterlogging what causes them to go all dark brown and ragged? i have thrown a few like that into my garden as it made the ID rather hard

yep. they go brown, and get delicate. they go manky quickly. and not as strong.

ah thanks, i wondered why the colour was so different on some specimens. they dont look particularly appetising, so i have been basically wedging them in branches above piles of woodchips heheh

Thanks again for the responses, ive done a spore print and they seem to be allright, you where right ,couldnt get a print from the smaller ones, im not sure if I should toss them or not. Also im not getting any blueing on the stems, only a little on the caps, does that happen sometimes? they dont change colour

All of the mushrooms in your original post are subs. They look healthy. Spore print looks good too.
