They look like agrocybes to me. I see that greenish color on agrocybes often and those stems are way too thick to be ovoids. Ovoid caps are never that pale either at that stage.

Need to see more mature fruits and see some bruising on the stems before I will be convinced they are ovoids.

I have had ovoid stems as thick as broom sticks, with caps that were 4-5" across. S ya, they can have thick stipes.

It was really strange.  My first finds in mid April  were all on the western portion of the area.  The latest finds were all further to the east with nothing in the areas that produced in mid April.  I found that odd.  It's like the fruiting is working its way across the area.

yeah, that's p much opposite of what one would expect for a fungus that fruits as the season and/or ground warms in the spring (unless you're talking a matter of just a mile or three).

i find my first morels at my shop a full three weeks before the ones at my house some years.  the shop is about 35 miles east of my house as the crow flies and in a much different microclimate.

with everything i've done, found, and experienced this year, if i could find one old specimen and get a viable stem butt, i'd call it a successful spring.  as it is, i might have to beg for a print and do it the long/more involved way if all else fails.

Nice man!

Question about watering my patch. How much and how often should I water when it's really dry?

Oh i dunno man. I was about to resort to going in there with a watering pitcher, but it seems like my spot got lucky with some of that precious rain yesterday.  All of the fruits i found were fresh and healthy. I found a pluteus that looked dry as hell but was waterlogged when i poked it.

I just don't want to overdo it with watering them. I know that the spot I found those in hasn't received much if any rain. I dumped a couple gallons of water around there yesterday and noticed a few more pins this morning before I went to work. Heh, at least you didn't have to go through all that!

Best looking fruits of the season

Went hunting today at a government facility where you have to go through metal detectors and get a security badge to enter the property. That was kinda surreal.

I haven't seen a single mushroom ovoid or otherwise in my area. I live on the shoreline of Connecticut the tips are just starting to get into the high 70's to a couple days that's say they will be 80 degrees out and the rain has been very patchy mostly raining during he night. I hoping for a good down pour I think there's a chance next Thursday or this Thursday don't remember but it's supposed to rain soon like a good storm I hope that gets Things in gear

Isn't there a particular kind of mulch I should be looking for?

Wet hardwood mulch that stays shaded and wet which has been there for a year or 2.  It doesnt really matter the tree species just that it stays nice and wet all year long, and is reapplied once in a while to maintain a few inches depth.  Evergreen bushes are a good thing, and close to a water source.

I do not water mine, I just let nature run its course. I use brown mulch(hard wood), cheap stuff from Walmart and reapply ever spring. A shady spot is always beneficial.
3 years and running from a handful of stem butts & pretty self sufficient.

The Celandine is finally dying off and the ovoids are beginning to show themselves. Killed em tonight...I'll  post some pics later but my advice would be to look in those areas where the celandine was carpeting everything and is now dying.:mushroom2:
