"You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste the after-life?" - Modest Mouse

So I was jamming modest mouse, and that line really struck me.

I remember thinking a few times that if an after-life existed, would we even know we had reached it?
Or would life just continue to manifest as normal until a novel perception arose as we begin to notice oddities?

I guess this is something we can probably never really know and therefore useless to think about.

sorry if this induces spiritual paranoia lol

Life and death are one. . can be expressed a million different ways, and some more beautifully, and some less or more enthusiastically, in fact it really can be expressed an unlimited number of ways. . I don't believe there's an afterlife, but I also believe the present moment is infinite and eternal. . . I've experienced it, and words come secondary, but when you wake up from ad ream, you know you've woken up.  Always true. . there are other things we can know that are true. . like, waking up from the dream is only the very very first step, then there's essentially boundless heaven realms, but it's all a subjective way of expressing a single existence that is infinite peace, bliss, and consciousness.  Or divine consciousness.  There's no death because there's nothing that could die - light cannot die, it only gets transformed, and everything in this universe is light.

You don't have to worry about Purgatory since it does not exist.

You should worry about hell, which is real.

Ah, good old fivepointer to spread the good message!

OP, have you ever watched the movie Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise?

In the movie, things start off linear but as it goes on, things seem to get more dreamlike and it becomes hard to comprehend which is happening first or last. Spoiler, turns out that at the end of one scene he goes to a place where after you die you live in a lucid dream of your choice. The movie never tells you this until the end, in which he is told he is in that lucid dream now.

So, he decides to end the constructed after-life in favour of whatever fate awaits (perhaps another after-life) and leaps off a building. He dies in the dream and the last moment of the film shows you his eye opening up into the real world.

Not a great movie but I thought I'd mention it as it relates to the topic
