Some pics from a few days ago. A selection of photos that came out OK.

:mushroom2: Psilocybe subaeruginosa :mushroom2:

Tricholoma terreum

I think this is another kind of Tricholoma.

Hypholoma?

Galerina marginata

Tapinella panuoides

A muscaria - Coprinus comatus

Some kind of Agaricus - not a yellow stainer. Damaged flesh blushed a slight red/brown colour.

And some more porcini (Boletus Edulis)

Ok so sorry about the amateur effort last night. I was just excited about my first possible find. I have been out a few times in the last couple of years without much luck so after a possible id last night i thought it best to take my camera back up this morning and get some better pics.

These were at the top of the hill, anyone help me id these...

Then down to my new spot..... These are all from the same general vicinity......

Here is some fresh picked ones for an underside view...

Here is the area i found them in......

These are some others in the same area, please help id....

And here is a better photo of the ones i got last night, i didn't realize i had a filter on my phone last night....

Im not sure how blue they are sposed to turn but i pinched this one on the right hand side......

I really hope these potos help me better id them. I was also wondering about taking spore prints, when should they be taken ..... when freshly picked or ??? Thanks so much for your help, this site is an awesome resource and i will be doing a lot more research here.

Hey MT1lad,

You have no psilocybe subaeruginosa in your post above.

And I seriously doubt the ones you put up last night are subs either.

You have lots of Hypholoma pictured and they can be mistaken for subs by novice hunters. (as can the deadly Galerina - see my post above yours)

Don't wash them, it will make spore printing nearly impossible if you drown the gills in water.

Once you've got home take the mushrooms, (unwashed), and cut the stem off very close to the gills. Place the cap gills down on paper or foil, leave in a non-windy spot for a spore print. Keep the step right next to the cap so you know which stem goes with which cap until you are absolutely 100% confident of your own ability to ID them. The bruising is quite obvious, if you're in doubt it most likely means you don't have subs.

That's a bad example of what I mean for you to to do, but you get the idea. Keep your stems next to them better so there are no doubts about which stem and cap belong together.

[edit] - and really, if you want an ID, make a new thread and follow the guidelines on how to create an ID request. This thread isn't really for IDs. You'll get the Trusted identifiers looking at proper ID requests more than you will over this thread.

Just returned from another unsuccessful hunt!. Checked everywhere!

Does the south fruit earlier than the North?

I'm East and not having any luck.

And nice finds zed!, can't wait to start seeing them again :crazy2:

your right it is against site rules to discuss locations.

my suggestion is to search the site - read through past south australian threads.  to at least get an idea at least of habitats to look and possibly find clues and generalisations about locations.

its best if you do some research and work out what it is your looking for and as mentioned possible habitats of said fungi.

people also dont like to discuss locations for fear of dickheads who just come along looking for kicks and inadvertently through lack of knowledge trash their spots.  happens in tasmania a lot in known sites.

Yeah that's fair. Cheers man. We have been doing some extensive reading for a while now and have been getting some ideas and whatnot from all the past years threads. My mates knee op is coming along and he's about at the point where we can go hiking without too much trouble so I think we'll use some of the info we've learned and go for a look in the coming weekends. Cheers again.

Im pretty sure the south fruit first as the coldness comes from the Antarctica and goes half way up Australia
i am from the north and we found only 5 magics for the whole day. So we going to push further south.
Did find this slippery jack?? though, thought it was pretty impressive!

I went down to the Adelaide Hills yesterday for a drive and it was quite a pleasant day. Given the central hills had received quite a lot of rain recently I had a look for a few hours and counted somewhere around 22 obviously different species if I had to guess, quite a great deal more than is around home at the moment!

Took a few snaps but it was quite wet so my camera use was limited. I'm not sure if I found any subs but it wasn't really the purpose of the day (although it would have been nice). Will take a trip down at a later date.

I don't have my phone on me to upload some pics but I did take this one with the DSLR. Was a brilliant specimen with loads of these around. When I get around to getting them off the phone I'll upload them all.

Also this one since I already got it off the phone.

Know them feels man! I am finding alot more mushrooms growing in the north in the spots I am looking anyway. So hopefully not far off now!

I am gonna try hunting more south for once next time I go out, got told of a few areas from guys at work, hope it pays off! :mushroom2::mushroom2::mushroom2:

On a side note did anyone see that lil spot on the news about mushrooms picking, I caught just the end of it. They were talking about the "Death Cap" I think, I just saw the last few seconds. They showed a A.muscaria from what I saw seemed amusing.

Thanks vandal, that's heaps handy to know.
Unfortunately I've got no spots in the south so it might be a little bit of a waste to start searching for new spots with only a few popping up.
If you could give me a heads up how you go down south that'd awesome. Save me a couple hour round trip.

And hahaha yeah, thought slippery jack was slang for porcini for a second there.  But yeah, got yourself a HUGE porcini there . Grats.

Hey all, went for a 2 hour hunt last weekend, no subs but thousands of mushrooms everywhere! Hope to have some more success this weekend.

Check out a few snaps I got below, some weird green staining big mushrooms in one shot.

Yeah, South definately seems to be where it starts .

Seriously can't make more than a weeks difference though... Weathers been looking real nice, it has to be any day now.

Nah, didn't catch the report. There seems to always be a few. Probably a good marker of the start of the season.

Hi,

I saw the news report, was not greatly informative. I can't remember what shroom they were talking about, not sure if they mentioned it. They said it would kill you in 4 hours? No advice on what to do if you have eaten one (take one for the doctor ?) Funny how the same story ten or twenty years ago would have been aimed at trippers and not wanna be chefs (maybe that's thanks to shows like Masterchef and MKR)?
