These are some pics of my first oyster grow about 5 years ago. The humidity and high rainfall gave rise to some dinner plate-sized Oyster clusters. I remember how ecstatic I was to discover that nature takes care of its own.:awesome:

I think these were Pleurotus columbinus but the mid-summer temps were peaking at 85 in the shade. I had so little experience at that time. I love looking back at my first grows and remembering that at one time I too was a newbie.
That's what makes me want to teach others so much. I love passing on the knowledge, skill, and art form that is mycology; as a fanatic of nature I feel honored that someone would want to listen and learn from my experience.:bow2:

interesting, thanks guys! i have a lot of straw available where I am, too, but I don't have a shredder and just spent all my money on an AA75 b/c my PC got too pitted to use. Maybe I should have waited but it is nice to have.

I haven't seen any horse bedding pellets in the stores around here but I'll take a look around. sounds a lot easier to work with and the heat/pressure used to press it into pellets probably helps make it less vulnerable to contams like the wood pellets

Here's my first time growing these and proof FAE matters.

1st flush, indoors--stem overload probably due to poor FAE:

(but the stems stir fried soft and tasty, no complaints):

2nd flush, 1/2 time outdoors due to trich begging on block or I overreacted:

(stems thinned out)

i had one that was about that. Used it for 5 years with no issues(it was 10 years old or so when i got it). It was in some old shiitake growers back yard in the dirt.  In fact i gave it to Stupendous-Yappi and I think he is still using it. They pressure test those things to 250psi or so before they leave the shop.

good to know, lipa! that means i can still use it for canning. i also got tired of the hissing in the kitchen and needed a bigger sterilizing capacity. i'm not sure the 75x has that much more capacity than my PC, though. I could have gotten away with buying a hot plate to run my PC in my lab instead.

Popped my cherry  :rockman:

2gal buckets, wood chips/coir x2, straw x4, 2-3 quarts spawn each.

Pulled about #2 off of first flush of each of my first two straw buckets.

You can run it without the liner if you're just doing jars (I hear).  I quit using my presto cause the turkey burner made the bottom bow out :0

Nice pics everyone!

Some SRA that fruited without immediately being eaten by slugs:

And me frying them

My preparation of new SRA substrate, from the big concretemixingbuckets in which i let them firast colonise a bit, transferring them to big buckets with a toplayer of soil in which i will fruit them:

And my summer Reishi grow, of G. resinaceum, Reishi LipaUniversity and a strain from Forrester, all in buckets on a mix of strawpellets, sawdust and bran:

Yep I was limbo dancing, kept tripping over the dress too.

Rooms about 18C at the moment.

Nope straight straw. I do have 3 experimental logs in the next batch that have 5% dry bran added at spawning.

I didn't know that was possible for broccoli and oysters to make love.  That 2nd pic deserves a gold medal, Drake!
