seal it, and throw it away. It will most probably not be worth keeping.
That infection will retard mycelial growth and lower or destroy your chances of having a yield (if the infection even lets you get to fruiting).
Removing the infection will not be practical.
Also if you have other grow boxes in the vicinity you stand the chance of infecting them too!

(I can´t afford all the growing supplys at the moment... I calculated it through and where i´m from i would need a 150 euros at least, to get everything together... As soon as my financial circumstances change i will start growing myself)
Well back to the growbox... Since one half of it looked pretty nice, and there also one or two shrooms where growing happily there, i decided to cut the contam. half away...
A friend of mine once also cut the mycelum into pieces and it worked good for him... So i figured maybe this might give the box another chance... I keep it in a different room too...
I tell you how if it worked as soon as i see new pins or contams
Thanks for your answers

So it fruited even with the contamination? Great stuff, so its not a total loss after all. What kind of yield did you get?
It would be interesting to see if you cut that contamination out successfully.
My first ever grow was back in 2005 (or was that 2006?) when I was living in the UK, and it was 2 grow boxes; I'll never forget it because it was bought from a street vendor in Camden Town on the last day that Shrooms were legal in the UK, and we bought them for a real bargain!
The point is: Even though I didn't "do it myself" , it opened the world of Mycology (specifically fungus) to me, and I haven't looked back!
I was hooked!
That being said, the guys are right, grow-boxes are really the tippy tip tip of the iceberg... there is so much cool stuff to do once you get some equipment of your own. I hope you do!

You do realize mycology is nothing but the study of fungus, right? So that sentence doesn't quite make sense.

i think Oyster meant magic mushrooms But i know what your talking about, i think i´m also hooked... The idea behind the buying of grow boxes was, that i wanted to find out the rudimentary things you need to know about growing. And of course its cheaper than buying all the grow supplies you need to do it yourself, not in long term view of course. Also the first growbox i got, was a complete failure, because of the mistakes i made... The growboxes i got after that only slightly worked or didnt work at all... Back than i didnt know why... Now i now better, i put the albino growbox in a place to sunny, i didnt wash my hands enough before preparing. I also replaced growboxes, and stupid stuff like that... If i had started growing my own mushrooms right away, contams and aborts would have been the only thing that i harvested.
The Box isn´t ready yet. There quite a few pins coming. The mycel looks healthy... The other supa growbox i have around had her first yield yesterday... around 170 g of fresh mushrooms. It really seems like they thought the concept of supa grow boxes through... They have holes in there bags and even in the lid of the box, and i was skeptical about that earlier, before the first flush... But it works very well.
I wonder if the supa grow technic could be used when growing your own mushrooms...

Today i harvested the shrooms of this supa grow kit. It was not that big of the flush, and the shrooms where kind of small i guess. But the mycel still looks healthy, white fuzz covers it and well after harvesting i put the mycel out of the box turned the box up side down and put the mycel on the top, because there where many little shrooms growing on the side.
here are the pics.

I´m actually very glad and suprised, that it worked to cut out the contamination. Seems like the supa technic is not so bad after all.

Those are good results for a grow kit. Take some spore prints!

Wow that is very cool. Those mushrooms look so happy!
I am very interested in how you cut the infection out of the cake. Would you be willing to share your supatechnic method?

Hey OysterKing. With this kit it was pretty easy, because one half was full of white healthy mycelium and so i could cut it right in half I desinfected a scalpel and let it dry first, because the desinfectant might hurt the healthy mycelium... i took a shower right before, to give the healthy part the best chances on surviving this. I only sprayed sterilized water... And i didn´t let the kit soak again...
Today i harvested my second or third flush... It was very small though... but the first flush was pretty big at least We had another kit where there was a greenish dot in the middle, we tried to cut it out also, but it still spread... We didnt cut out much, i think that was the mistake... We should have cut it out with at least 2 cm healthy mycelium around... And its also a little more difficult to cut a hole in the middle, because contaminated substrat might fall on the healthy mycelium...

Hey Neon
Thanks for sharing.
I have an Oyster straw cake that had a little Trichoderma growing in a 2 inch strip on the bottom of the cake just before fruiting time.
Just after unwrapping the plastic off the cake, I took a Q-tip dipped in bleach and wiped it on to the infection, in the hopes of killing or keeping in place any spores that may try to move. Then I used the tip of my scissors to pull the infected straw bits off the cake, till I couldn't see any contamination.
It seems to have worked and I've taken about 200g of Oysters off the 1kg cake so far, it looks healthy and ready to flush a few more times..
I was very careful with the Q-tip, and tried to not touch the healthy mycelium. I don't know if this can be recommended, and how effective it is, but it did work.
I wish you all the best!
