Hey guys, I took a break for awhile and looking to get back into the hobby.. any new techniques or mods to growing bulk? I had a few good grows using wbs to coir, gypsum and something else, it's been put away since I've stopped for awhile.
Also, I have some syringes that might be close to 7 or 8 months old that I never used. I'm debating on whether or not to give these a shot or just get some new ones.. I guess I could try each one and do a g2g transfer if they grow... thanks and
Edit: just remembered it was vermiculite. Coir, verm, and gypsum

Ok... I'll look into it.. Out of maybe 50 or so jars, I've only had 2 go by the way of contams.. I had a few more but that was due to human error.. I do a rinse and stir and rinse and stir and rinse.... (u get the idea) process that seems to get most of that "film" layer off the wbs. Might not be in that order tho... Gotta check my journal/bookmarks.
In your exp, what makes oats better in your opinion?

I'm a wbs whore, Its all I've used. I boil the shit a lot of times lol. But I mainly just simmer it for maybe 10 mins. You don't even need to soak/simmer it if you don't want.

Yeah, I usually do too.. I was hoping Mad Season could tell us why he prefers oats. I might try oats when I'm out of this bag of wbs.

I can simmer/boil oats for an hour to hydrate, so don't even need to soak them and they don't need to be rinsed. The hulls are so strong they'll contain the starchy interior so well. Literally falls apart like sand. They don't leave starch up the walls of the jar and since they can be boiled they can just get steam dried so easily via flipping in a strainer.
I've noticed wbs needs to be rinsed after the last simmer or else they'll be too starchy. Because of that last rinse, they need to get spread over newspaper to dry which is such a mess and such a hassle. (Yes I soak in gypsum)

Ok.. I see... I'm going to use wbs for my return foray into the hobby. That's about all the wbs I have left anyhow. But after that, I'll give oats a try. I'll look up an oats tek.. Thanks

Wbs definitely works, but oats have won me over in a big way. MUCH easier to prep. Oats don't clump, they don't burst, and they don't need to be rinsed or soaked.

You're an oats man too eagle?
Yeah oats are just all around better, I seriously thought I was just bad at making grains when I was on wbs cause of the damn clumping. Oats are cheap as hell too. 50 pound bag for 11$ here.

Yes, I absolutely love them. Oats made me loathe wbs, which used to be my go to grain. I still use wbs sometimes for nostalgia's sake.
