Is this mycelium? A.bisporus. Newbie here
    #21650833 - 05/07/15 09:20 PM (9 years, 13 days ago)

Hello, this is my first time with gourmet mushrooms. I bought colonized rye and mixed it with pasteurized manure and straw. I also added a bit of gypsum on the subtrate. After one week on incubation at 23° I see this:

Are these white balls normal? or it´s a mold?

I thank you for your help.
(sorry for my poor english)

It is almost certainly mushroom mycelium of the Agaricus you mixed in.

Looking pretty good to me.

Ok, thank you!
So then I have to wait to the 100% of that white fluffy mycelium and add a cover of peat moss. The question is: should I pasteurized it or not? some people say I shouldn't because It has beneficial bacteria on it.
I really don´t know.
Thank you for your reply!

Use a 50/50+ casing, and yes, pasteurize it. Good luck with these, you're working with one of the hardest species. If it doesn't work out get yourself some Oyster myc and try those. They're much easier.

It does look perfectly fine so far.

you can chemically pasteurize with hydrated lime.  good luck.  as stated above this is not that easy of a species to fruit. especially since it looks like your mycelium is fluffy and not rhizomorphic.

Thank you all for your replies. I noticed it was hard to grow after I purchase the rye..
And yes, it´s fluffy, I was hoping for a rhizomorphic mycelium but this is what I got.
I tried making LC from this wild oysters but I failed

I'm pretty sure A. Bisporus is just tomentose all the time.

Wild + LC are 2 words that shouldn't ever go together when it comes to mycology. Clone a wild specimen to agar and you'll have a better chance.
