spraying mold remover on a moldy substrate
    #21652764 - 05/08/15 10:36 AM (9 years, 12 days ago)

I had one of my substrate get cobweb mold . I looked yesterday and everything was fine. today I looked and it had two spots on it. I sprayed it down with mold remover and wraped it back up because its still colonizing . I believe I got the mold because I had some repairs done to my apartment and it got moved around a lot. I lost a mono tub to the same shit . anybody have any experience doing this ?

Well... I'm just speculating here, so take it with a grain of salt, but I'd avoid using mold remover. I believe the best course of action when it comes to cobweb (are you even sure it's cobweb?) is to spray is with a little bit of diluted hydrogen peroxide. I would be scared that "mold remover" might be too powerful and just eat through the mycelium and cause serious damage.

Maybe it's not cobweb, and what's killing the tub is your use of mold remover... I've used mycelium that looked like cobweb before, and it turns out it really wasn't cobweb, just a little more grey and whispy than usual for unknown reasons.

Just genetics but it's also pretty easy to differentiate between grey mycelium and cobweb. Cobweb is almost clear it's so wispy. Very dark grey too.

When I get cobby I actually just use 3% dioxide sprayed right out of the bottle every 8-12 hours until it's all gone. H2o2 doesn't hurt cube mycelium but it stalls it a little. H2o2 has saved my ass from so much cobby. I've even saved a tray that almost had the whole surface covered (not recommended) but hit it with peroxide ASAP before it spreads.

take a knife and flame. Then cut that bad stuff out. Better yet, you should have spawn already colonized to replace that tub

Awesome! So I've definitely not grown cobweb before. I thought H2O2 would kill mycelium, I'm relieved that it doesn't!

I just looked up a typical brand of mold remover, and the active ingredient is bleach, sodium hypochlorite. Now I'm pretty sure the bleach is stronger than 3% h2o2 and treatments with it must not be as forgiving. Of course, it all depends on the concentration of the bleach solution, but I would still avoid it.

QFT lol.

Cutting out molds would work under 2 conditions. 1) it doesn't spread RETARDEDLY easy and 2) if it's just a very VERY small section of mold in an otherwise colonized cubensis substrate.

Cobweb usually breaks both rules, which is why I'd just spray it with 3% peroxide

Yes it was definatly cobweb. It was very wispy and some parts of it stretched over a quarter of the sub. All in one day. I only sprayed it today . Just to see what happens. I tried to do a g2g transfer with pocorn to brf.  I'm going to upload the pic later when I get off of work . Black mold cobweb and some sort of white mold ...definitely not mycelium. Only g2g that worked was pop corn to popcorn

Honestly man I don't g2g anymore. I've heard of lots of success in the back of a big sab because otherwise jars are so big they move air around.

But I have a why risk it attitude? If I didn't get into agar I'd probably have rage quit long ago.
