    #21650325 - 05/07/15 07:12 PM (9 years, 13 days ago)

Hey guys im starting to make more spawn than my SAB can handle, nd it turns into a pain in the ass cause i cant see so mistakes occur, double g2ging, g2ging an uncolonized jars lol bunch of shit. i've read that flow hoods run like $300, is there anything I can run for 80-100? id like something nice nd visible so my g2gs will be nice. Thanks abunch my fellow shroomies -kushroom

ps is there any ghetto rig i can do with a hepa filter and a old vacuum haha? Thanks again guys!

i got the purple filtrate filter at walmart 12 bux

but this one is better (rated for virus carrying particles is a must)

http://www.filtrete.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/FiltreteNA/Filtrete/Products/~/Filtrete-Healthy-Living-2400?N=4315+3294529207+3294573954&rt=rud

and a honeywell hepa filter at walmart 15 bux

and a cheap shop vac at walmart with a blower (for 20 bux)

honeywell hepa filter walmart

took two LARGE sterolite tubs (that were the same size at the top as the filter. 6 bux each at big lots and a sterolite shoe box for a dollar at big lots.

cut the bottom out of one and glued the filter to the top with silicon

cut the bottom out of the shoebox, and siliconed the hepa filter into the bottom.

then i cut off one of the tool attachments  for the shop vac, glued it into the side of the big tub that has to this point not been used.

super glue tacked tha shoebox/hepa filter around the vac port.

then siliconed around that.

finally i siliconed the top of the filter side tub to the top of the filtrate filter, and put a hepa filte on the shop vac

air flow goes ->hepa on vac -> honeywell heppa -> filtrate filter to get difused -> work area made of plastic and easy to wipe down with alcohol/high concentrated h2o2 (35%).

cost was in the neighborhood of 90 bux silicone isnt cheap.

it COULD be that i could have sealed it cheaper with ruberized undercoating spary (which is the same as flexseal)... for $4 a can. i dunno

its very loud, i havent figured out what flowhood i want, i wanted to see how well i could do cheaply. and it works fine for agar and g2g etc...

just obnoxiously loud and you cant replace the filters.

Replace your SAB with a bigger, better SAB.

Whatever you do, don't get rid of your sab.

You will need it to clean up dishes.
You can't put a contaminated dish in fro.t of a flow bench because it contaminates everything downwind.

:whathesaid: sabs are king for this hobby. Perfect for making prints too. Honestly you can do more with a well built big sab (mines 110 qts) than you could have with a flow hood.
