1.5 Pint Jar Colonization Stopped- What Now?

Just over a month ago I inoculated some BRF 1.5 pint jars. the cakes colonized quickly until about 50% completion, but colonization has slowed to a crawl. I flipped a jar over but have yet to see improvement. Should I birth the jars now and scrape off the uncolonized portion or wait? I definitely won't use this size jar again.

1.5 pint is 3x too big, use half pint wide mouths or if you cant find those half pint regular mouth. your best bet is probably what you said at this point.

Check out my thread on 1.5 pints
Just don't fill them with more than 1/2 pint of substrate, then fruit them in vitro!

The recommended 1/2 pint jars are 236 ml, I used 400 ml cups and filled them to the top and mine fully colonized? Shouldn't it just take longer? Some people say contams can stop colonization.

That is glorious.
How did you keep it from stalling?
I'm guessing it has something to do with mycelium running, but I've never read the book.
Plan on it though!

i tested a batch of cakes when i made more first glc. They all came out clean. i made the qt cake b/c i had extra material and it grinds my gears if i throw things away

that glc ended up getting expanded to over 100 qt jars of stones

I was thinking I could just fill up my 1.5 pints a third of the way, but I don't have needles that long. How else could I colonize the jars?

peat has no use in a pf-tek jar.. Why not just get the right jars?

I will eventuallly, but half-pint jars are unavailable at my store. For peat, I meant using it mixed with verm in the layer on top the substrate, like the 1.5 pint jar thread suggested.

Exactly what blackdust said.
I just lifted the lid and shoved my hand in there, with gloves in an SAB of course.
The 1.5 pints are super fun for in vitro! Give it a try.
If you don't mind spending money on jars you'll probably use once or twice, go for the tiny 1/4pint jars!
Just stack them in the SGFC and they're the same size as 1/2 pints!

The verm/peat is a casing layer after colonization to aid with top fruiting.
This is only for in vitro fruiting though, if you're popping the cakes out you don't need to worry about it.
Use the dry verm as a "filter" for colonization.

I went ahead and filled up the jars and inoculated like blackdust said. Thanks for the information.

Keep in mind, he used a liquid culture. If you're using spores it might stall before 100% colonization.
I wouldn't go over 1/2 pint of substrate for a BRF cake inoculated with spore solution.
I've heard that even 1 pints can easily stall.
