Thanks Mushroomson!
I've heard a few people say that gold tops and blue meanies give different buzzes. I wonder if there is any truth to this?

Yes, definitely a difference from word of mouth. I can't tell you accurately but I hear weraroa are more visual (body stone, too?) and subs are more energetic.

My latest patch lost a load of pins over the last few dry days but plenty have made it through. Hopefully this long stint of rain will bless us all.

The Northwestern is exploding with Gymns at the moment.. literally thousands and thousands! I should have snapped a shot of them.

Quick question;
When the pins dry up due to heat, wind and no rain should I slice them up?
Or will the dried out pins come back to life when it starts raining hard?

Completely depends on the weight of your subs and other factors. You will need scales to be accurate. The size of those mushrooms vary so much. What level are you looking for?
That central monstrous sub is a real beauty.

Maybe like a high level 2 to level 3 trip?

on average I'm getting This amount each day from my tubs now. And they're getting bigger each time I harvest them. I have to water them 3 times a day but I'm hoping it starts raining any day now. Enjoy

I'd definitely suggest less than 10 grams wet per person for your first time. Shroomery suggests 7.5g for level 2. Subs are extremely potent, you can always consume more but it's difficult to consume less if you've eaten em! Have a great experience mate. I recommend eating them Sat morning as subs give a lot of people, including me a fair bit of energy. I took subs on Friday evening and didn't get to sleep until 6 AM

Blue meanies is a slang term and refers to different NZ shrooms to different people. It depends on what circle you're in. There's a lot of misinformation out there. In 2013 I was in CHCH and Blue meanies were not considered weraroas by the people I spent time with.

There are some pictures of Gyms on page 9. They are everywhere in Auckland at the moment.
Nick names like 'blue meanies' are really annoying. They mean different things wherever you go. I think the most popular use of the term blue meanie is in reference to Copelandia species. Then there's 'gold tops' which can mean Psilocybe cubensis or Psilocybe subaeruginosa. If you're going to use nick names, at least use shortened versions of the Latin name so we know what you're talking about. An example of this would be 'subs' for P. subaeruginosa, though even that could be confused for P. subsecotioides.

Sorry for the confusing people with the names of the weraroa. I didn't relise that 'blue meanies' was a contested nomenclature in New Zealand. The only other species I've heard referred to as "blue meanies" before are Copelandia cyanescens, but seeing as that's an Australian species, and that this is a New Zealand thread, I mistakenly thought that everyone would know what I was on about. Apologies there.
So many people I've met in Wellington (who, ironically, usually have no idea what I'm on about when I use the scientific name) refer to Psilocybe weraroa as "blue meanies" that I just assumed it was the default nickname of the species. I never knew that aucklandii got called blue meanies before reading this thread, which I guess shows how unreliable any non-scientific names are when discussing mushrooms.

The fuck it is! Its the first day of rain in ages for Auckland atm. Best sound ever during the mush season. I can hear the rain as I type. Will blazeup then go out sometime after midnight tonight to harvest the big mature guys who have allready droped spores tonight with my phone torch and scissors. I hope I can find the camera so I can take decent pictures of what I hope to be my fatest P. subaeruginosa harvest so far.

Very chilly & damp at the bottom of the Nth Island. Will go out harvesting in the next 24 hours.
