Accutane
    #21634301 - 05/04/15 11:21 AM (9 years, 16 days ago)

So I've decided to start on the lowest dose of accutane. I've struggled with acne for over 7 years, trying every medication from doxycycline, to minocycline, to retinoids, an assortment of other topicals, peels, almost everything available. As of recently, I've gotten the most benefit from a new medication called Aczone. It's basically a topical anti-inflammatory with anti-bacterial properties. In my experience, it shrinks the normally cystic pimples into very small pimples that eventually fade away.

The issue is, I'm still breaking out, and each new pimples leaves a new dark scar. It's gotten to the point where despite having little active acne, I have a ton of visible scars that looks sorta like birth marks. So yea, I've decided to try accutane. Almost everyone I know hasn't really suffered any bad side effects.

Was wondering if anyone hear tried it and what their experience was like. Are there any droogz in particular that I should avoid? I figured I'd be alright as long as I avoided kratom and alcohol, which seem to be the hardest on the liver. Don't think I'll have anything to worry about in regards to L, K, or adderall, although I may be mistaken. What do you guys think?

i've been on 40mg isotretionin for a month now.  you will continue to break out for a month or two and then things will get better.  i've already noticed that my breakouts are less severe, even after only a month.  give it time.

Nothing ever worked for me until i adjusted my diet. Granted, I never went as extreme as Accutane. They wanted to, it was that bad, but the horror stories made me decline. The biggest factor affecting my skin? Dairy!! The hormones they give cows fucks with my skin beyond belief. You'll be amazed by just drinking ONLY water (occasional almond milk and sugar free juice) and cutting out dairy and most processed foods, you'll not only feel better but your body and skin will look better. Probably not the answer you're looking for, but combine it with your other treatment (if you choose so) then you might see better results.

How severe were your breakouts to begin with?

I know some people have an initial breakout cause of everything trapped within the pores. I was hoping I'd be able to avoid that since I've been using a retinoid daily to prevent that. It'll probably still happen. Hopefully its worth it. I'd be alright if I had regular pimples but I get these cystic ones that take upwards of 2 months to go away sometimes

I took accutane for a few months when I was like 17. It dried me up everywhere, I almost drown from nose bleeds at night I was so dry. (That's how ghengis khan died) I never get nosebleeds.

It did clear up my acne for the most part, and I didn't even finish the six month cycle or what ever.

One major problem since though. Stomach issues, tons of stomach issues. I can't eat until 4-5pm unless I medicate on some ganja when I first wake up. This issue came up as soon as I started taking it and still persists almost a decade later.

I feel like I would have naturally grown out of my acne but my mom made me do it.

Man, I tried that years ago, I wished it worked. I literally eat no dairy whatsoever, no chocolate, almost no butter whatsoever, no candy, no soda, very little beer, no coffee. None of it helped. Its for this reason that I'm finally deciding to try accutane. I'm kind of out of options. I don't really know what else to do

How long were you on the diet? It's not a week miracle cure, it might take a few months for your body to clear the toxins. People forget that acne is mainly an inside problem than a surface. You can take as many medications and creams that you want but in the end it's only treating an  ongoing imbalance, not actually giving a solution.

I've been holding that kind of diet for over 6 years now. I know some people have this idea that acne might be diet based, which it may be in some situations, but its not for me. I hold a very healthy diet ,I run 5 miles daily, I drink tons and tons of water, I sleep well, and don't really even use any substance that often other than herb. I've done loads of research into acne. There is no fix for some people at this time.

I think I was simply born with some sort of hormonal imbalance, and over active sebaceous glands. Nothing I do calms the oil that my skin produces.

EDIT: the only dietary change I havent tried is completely cutting out all grains. And the only reason I havent tried this is because its simply too difficult for me while being away at college. I'm trying to finish up my engineering degree, and foods like rice+beans and almond butter sandwiches keep me alive during the day

I'm assuming you're male given your user name. Yes, it is very possible that it is a hormone imbalance. For girls sometimes going in the pill helps regulate those hormones. Didn't for me.

Over stimulation of your glands causes over production as well. Simply, over washing or over drying, or just using a face wash without following up with an oil free  moisturizer, will make your skin compensate for the lack of oil and in turn will over produce. Probably something you already know but some people don't think that having your skin dry will actually make it MORE oily as a result.

Yea I'm a guy. Pretty sure its genetic cause my sister has a similar issue, the pill helped her a ton.

Yea I think when my acne was most severe, I was over drying my skin, but nowadays I always make sure to moisturize first, then medicate.

But really, its for this reason that I feel I need to go on accutane. I can't even go camping with my friends or go to a festival without worrying that my skin is gonna break out like no other. I'll be as careful as possible while on accutane. I'll make sure to eat a big meal with every dose, I'll probably completely cut out alcohol for however long I'm on it, I'll make sure I moisturize heavily every night. I'm just done constantly stressing over my skin

Accutane cured my acne.  4 years of trying every other product available at the time and getting nowhere.  Finally saw a doctor who put me on it.  I have no idea what the dosage was.  But it did make me depressed.  It did make me jaundiced.  And I would do it again.  It was totally worth it to have a permanently cleared face forever after.  I hope it works out for you as well as it did for me.

Thanks for the response, gives me a lot of hope. I'll be back at my home over the summer, working and surfing, so hopefully that fights off some of the depression. There is nothing that would make me happier right now than clear skin. It sucks been a senior in college and still having acne to deal with

atkins diet got rid of all my pimples, then i started smoking and started getting pimples even while on atkins.  Also masterbation will cause pimples too, thats why women seem to have so many pimple problems compared to men

It's a tough cycle to break, but even depression will affect your skin. That's right, stressing about breaking out will cause you to break out! I also found that getting a little sun light every day helped as well, although I don't know how much you can get given the medication you are on.

Yea, I think I'd break out even if I wasn't so stressed, but the stress definitely aggravates it. I used to spend much more time in the sun but now all the docs I've seen have told me that too much sunlight will make the scars darker and more noticeable. But I surf so I usually just layer non-comedogenic sunscreen on to prevent my skin from burning.

I know A LOT of people that have used accutane though and none of them suffered any serious side effects. I'll just make sure I ask for the lowest dose and I protect my liver

Try using a tanning bed twice a week. Don't go in for long enough to burn but go in as long as possible without burning. Start at 10 mins. I used to have acne and the tanning beds were the only thing that worked. I grew out of it by 23 and haven't had a serious breakout since.

100000% does cause pimples, if i go a week without masterbating i clear up zero pimples, then i masterbate, very next day i have a breakout, i have decades of peer reviewed trials proving this

I wouldn't doubt it since the raging hormones of adolensce play a role in acne.
