Is My Cake Dead?
    #2161830 - 12/05/03 04:15 PM (13 years, 3 days ago)

Is it? I birthed it about a week ago and it isn't pinning. I gave it some light... Maybe too much? 12/12?... put a bubbler in some water for humitiy, but then it started growing a lot of white fuzz. I read somewhere that if it just keeps growing fuzz and doesn't start pinning then the humitiy is too high. so i took out the bubbler and the fuzz stopped growing and kinda went away.(I think that might of been a mistake) Now the cake is kinda hard...So i put the bubbler back in there to see if it will start growing again. Do you think if i left the bubbler in there it would of started to pin? Do you think it's because i didn't cold shock? Do you think it will start to get fuzzy again? I want shrooms...

IMO and IME:
1.- One week is nothing.
2.- Air bubblers don?t do all the air exchange work. You should fan once a day at least.
3.- Did you dunk the cake?
4.- Patience, patience and patience.
5.- Keep humidity high and fan

no i didn't dunk... was i suppose to? I thought the cakes were moist enough because i used to much water when i put them together. Should i dunk now?

dunking isnt necessary. the best advice is to wait. after about 3 weeks, if still no growth, then you have a case.

patience is a virtue

When i mixed the verm, brown rice flour, i added more water than i was suppose too. So i thought dunking wouldn't be needed.

You?re right, it?s not necessary but it is advisable if you want to get decent flushes, IMO.

If the cake did colonize well and fast, your water content wasn?t that bad. Everytime I waterlogged my substrate, little colonization and/or contamination happened.

no,the answer is that you must wait longer than a week...i never had first flush pins on a cake in less than 8 days.
patience grasshopper.
