Oyster mushrooms would be a good start.

What makes you want to do pf tek then? There are different methods and different substrates for different species. It could work well but you're better off picking a species you want to grow, and then doing the research necessary to be able to grow them properly.

OP

if you jump into grains, you can literally use the same grain spawn for any edible mushroom.

Also, oysters are a really easy mushroom to start growing.  Linons mane is easy as well.  Also, any of the ganoderma grow very aggressive like oysters do as well.

Acutally, if you can grow cubes, I venture to say you can grow any mushroom.

Plus with oysters, there's blue ones, and yellow ones, pink ones. etc.

have fun!

Many woodlovers like shiitake can be done in cakes, just replace the verm with sawdust. RR did shiitake on cakes.

For real, I got mine for $25 on Craigslist. It just needed a pressure gauge and weight. Not bad for a 23 qt.

A pressure cooker will open up so much that you can do in this hobby.

If you want to continue further into the hobby a good pressure cooker will be one of your best investments.
