i'm suprised I can still write somewhat legibly * 1
    #21613362 - 04/29/15 01:46 PM (8 years, 9 months ago)

i haven't been in School for two years, so it's not all too often I ever have to hand-write anything anymore. aside from the occasional letter or job application, or writing my signature on the back of checks - I very rarely have any reason to write anything.

it seems that my handwriting is just as legible as it ever was though, i guess it's a skill i'm never gonna lose

interesting the way the mind works

what do you think about this?

Some schools aren't even teaching cursive anymore. Not sure how I feel about that. My hand writing sucks too btw.

I have terrible handwriting. Always have. If I write too fast, even I can barely read it.

I have two forms of hand writing.  Taking notes that I know only I can read, and incredibly nice beautifully written English.

I write like a alcoholic serial killer. I have never been able to understand how some people can control a pencil so elegantly, I tried when I was young to do it, it's just not there.

Me too. I've spent several minutes writing one word, trying to make it look nice. No dice. It would just look slightly better than normal.

my hands are stupid. thusly, my writing is terrible.

taking notes is horrific, because i cant write as fast as i need to, and i only get a minimal ammount of the information i need. my hands cramp up like a bad internet connection

I was just thinking about this this morning.

Used to be a damn good speller in school and for several years afterwards.
I think the reason my spelling has gone downhill so much is because I've been relying on  spell check for so long instead of phonetically sounding out a word trying to figure out a way to properly spell it.

Just like how having so much information at your fingertips via services like wikipedia & google can be a bad thing.
I believe it makes my cognitive skills worse as I don't have to "work" my brain any longer to find answers.

Completely ruined it.

When I was a little kid my dad gave me one of his old work computers to play my shitty little games on. I've been typing longer than I've been writing. In fourth grade when our class got "iBooks" to use I was tacking away while other kids struggled to type one finger at a time, looking for each key one at a time.
Now, having said that, my handwriting is absolutely terrible. I have trouble reading it sometimes.

The second they stopped requiring cursive in school I stopped. If it doesn't look good and doesn't come naturally then I don't see the point. I would need to start using one of those triangle grips and practice.

Nice. My mother taught me how to type on a somewhat modern typewriter when I was around 10 years old.
By the time I got to middle school and computers started becoming more popular as in one 1st gen PowerPC (don't remember if those were Apple or HP), I was already an ace at typing.

I find it amazing nowadays how kids as young as 6 or 7 already know how to type. I'm not surprised by it, just find it very fascinating.

As far as my handwriting goes it's very legible, but it's not something that would be acceptable in something like a school essay.
It's evolved into using all capital, print letters but just using different sizes for upper/lower case.

As someone who has received a hand written note from OP, I respectfully reject his premise.

yeah, but but he said "surprised" not "astounded". i think the "astounded" was implied with his interest "in the way the mind works". i was making a point. writing is incredibly complicated process. not everyone can write "legibly", and regardless, it's still complicated.
