Nope, nothing can be done to eliminate them. Even under absolutely perfect environments they can be abundant. Number of aborts is strain dependent to a certain degree though, so you could clone a strain that isn't abort prone.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.
Agreed, I have also come to this conclusion whilst fruiting Brazilian and Mexican Cubensis strains under identical conditions. Two attempts were made at each and while the Mexicans were prolific fruiters, the Brazilians aborted bigtime. Seems strain-related to me.
