A contest made by people that start seeds the same Day ! For example: We do get "subscriptions": every member that sees this should say if he is intrested in partecipating this contest and commints to be a contestant, prepare seeds and be ready to keep tracks of an imminent project We establish rules for the contest : contest lenght, number of seeds to sow etc We establish a starting date ( EXAMPLE : 10 May ) All the contestants start sowing that day. First post for everyone explains what kind of seeds is sown, pics of substrate, basically anyone explains current situation Every month (or earlier) everyone updates with pics, and status of seeds. Contest ends after a reasonable amount of time ( 6 months sounds great) . every contestant shows final results. criteria for winning are cactus difficulty, number of seedlings, growht archivied, and so on. Also a jury can be made by Mods and other members that are not currently partecipating the contest.
Undestand now?
I know dude I was just fucking with you and I'm one of those guys that don't really like a title but I would love to be apart of putting it together and helping to keep something going because I know a lot of people would enjoy the appreciation and kudos.
Count me out on it though buddy I'm not big on competition but I might try the grafting competition this year or next if I can keep things going

I knew exactly what you meant, like that grafting contest from a few years back only with seeds we all start at the same time and gow out our own way I'm also down for this, and think it's a grand idea, who's with me? Also, who's supplying the seeds?
Yea I don't think I'm in on participating unless I have a change of heart.
Anyways someone is gonna have to supply seeds like kactus said so that everyone would be all on the exact same level.
If everyone just buys the seeds there are too many variables that could give a lot of people unnatural advantages "if you know what I mean"
BTW Lemnaminor "BTW I'm gonna start calling you minor " I wasn't boasting in my post with all the pics I just thought you would find it funny and I knew what you meant and somewhat agree with you because I believe we need something like this around here to perk things up.
Not trying to be disrespectful in any way but the EBG forum can get very boring or mind numbing at times so a lil excitement could be very great to have around here

I for one love the idea,we just all need the exact same batch of seeds, and something more difficult to grow, nothing easy.

what do you think about mine and do you have any info that could help me with weening it to natural light?
I can't find any fucking info on growing this plant so I don't know if I should be letting the soil dry completely before each watering or keep it wet or anything whatsoever about cultivating it. I was hoping to get it grown and take a bunch of cuttings to sell being you can't seem to buy any from the vendors that I saw

Fuck dude I don't know what to do because I don't wanna continue growing it inside plus one of the leaves fell off the other day so I'm getting scared it's not getting what it needs
Out of around 100 seeds this is all I got out of them. The other died quickly when I tried last fall

Man,that leaf drop doesn't sound too good, but I wouldn't worry yet. Keep it growing indoors until it gets a lot bigger is all I can say, then slowly adjust it for outdoor life. Out of 20 or so seeds I started, I got one seedling

Well the leaf started drying on the edge and I guess I kinda knocked it off so it didn't fall on it's own.
Anyways it happened when I noticed that the soil was drying a bit at one point so I'm guessing I should keep it wet but I'm unsure of myself.

You guys pointed out a big problem, that can't be avoided. Seeds should be the exacts same batch, but this is almost impossible to archieve. Since we live in different parts of ther world, even if someone wanted to buy a bulk, than it would take long time to send seeds to all the contestants. So i say, no problemos, we don't win nothing than glory. so we get seeds by our own, we try to get decent ones and we sow. There will be different conditions, but we all start with different conditions, climate, soil composition, gear, quality of seeds is important, but there are a lot of other variabiles on the equation, and we can't have the exact same conditions anyway.

So you're saying that we should give this up then right?

The last grafting competition caused such great excitement that the majority of entrants gave up! This is the reason we didn't run another one across this winter.

Yes it can. It's boring as hell when all the action comes from people that can't be bothered to use the search function ask for things that have already been answered a zillion times, for example.
Have a TL:DR moment, please:
Most of you know I'm not into mind altering substances (except for red wine but hey, I'm continental european, ok?), so why the EG? Because it's a very relaxed place where people that grow plants, particularly a group of plants I am very fond of, get together to talk shit and share info. The fact that the EG is a small part of a forum devoted to a totally unrelated subject is probably part of the fun, because I believe the main drive of people that come here lies elsewhere and so the laid back attitude towards plant growing. You bring in competitions and things start to turn sour, because people will start competing instead of cooperating and pretty soon we'll have factions, dissent, name calling, banning and a whole display of general unpleasantries. I know it, I've been around internet forums long enough to have seen it time and time again (as have a number of you, I'm sure)
Remember annie, a former member with a lot to share but with the worst possible attitude? I'm truly sorry she left, we all could learn a lot from her. But she really had a way of bringing out the worst in a number of people. Bottom line: attitude accounts for a lot in places like these. The mods here have reached a point of minimal intrusion, the regulars keep the info flowing smoothly, everybody gets what they want, eventually. It's almost heavenly.
And, as someone here has in its sig, heaven can be a pretty boring place at times.
My 2 cents.

I don't remember Annie. Was she the one that went hydroponic on peres loph grafts?
Anyway. The contest I have in mind is nothing competitive, i would se it like "we grow cactus together".nothing is to be won, like picture of the month. I do like to see good projects and this could be encouraging.
What kind of red wine? I do like Nero D'Avola

Yes. Lots of very interesting knowledge on hydroponically growing Pereskiopsis and artificial lights.

Oh, we have plenty of local strains. I don't believe I have ever tasted wine made from Nero D'Avola. The only "foreign" strains (for lack of a better word, in portuguese they are called "castas") current here are Cabernet Sauvignon (and eventually Cabernet Blanc, but that's refreshments) and Syrah.
