Hi all, Thanks for the updates from a few of you that have found which seems to be Virginia and Southwest Ohio so far. Nothing to report from my neck of the woods in NYC metro area except that the daffodils are thriving and the burdock is just sprouting-The reason I mention that is the daff leaves are usually dropped and partially decayed and burdock leaves ate about 5x my hand at picking time in Westchester county ny - another 2 weeks I'd say.
However, I'd be hunting today if i lived in pittsburgh - home to some fine finds in late April 2012 and 2013.

Kinda like this one from last year:

This was growing along with other healthy ovoids in good conditions. Just a very strange variation of ovoid.

Black caps on immature ovoids is totally normal. There is nothing wrong with them.

I didn't even realize there were ovoids that didn't have black pins until last year. Obviously the ones I found today are the lighter capped variety. All of the pins growing in a cluster will be one or the other. I have both phenotypes in my mulch beds, and they have their own territories and don't mix.

Nice Koods! Are these from an urban patch or wild? This weekend could be shaping up nicely which is good since I won't be around to hunt for another 3 weekends. Which means I will probably miss the peak.

A month, maybe a month and a half generally.
Far too short.

I actually haven't ever found them in fall personally.
People in my area have though, end of October, maybe earlier, maybe early November, I think it just really depends on the weather. I doubt they come up every fall in a lot of places.
