He had a "switchblade" but the family claims that is was of legal size. The facts are: 1. Freddie gray was in an area frequented by drug dealers and users 2. Freddie gray made eye contact with police, and ran 3. Freddie gray was arrested, searched, etc 4. Freddie gray began asking for his inhaler after being arrested 5. Freddie gray took nearly 30 mins to receive medical attention 6. Freddie gray did not have an 80% severed spine and neck before coming into contact with police 7. The Baltimore police are NOTORIOUS for abuse, just in the last couple years they've awarded 6 million dollars to people for police abuse 8. Many witnesses claim he was being folded up like a "pretzel" by police 9. One eyewitness video clearly shows Mr. Gray not using his legs when being escorted to the police wagon and in obvious pain 10. Freddie gray was a healthy 25 year old male who ran from people and I believe was arrested for the "switchblade" and at the end of the confrontation he had with police, he had a severed spine and was dead.

i know its the internet and im sure its out there somewhere, but is there any video's of black people, legitly not doing anything at all, and obeying all commands, and they still get killed somehow? Minus drug raids for obvious reasons. i feel like there won't be that many video's, prove me wrong guys

i read it was a pocket knife, like a Swiss Army. (BTW, thanks for the facts, but i read the switch blade was a pocket knife, in the article in OP; but either way, thanks for the clarification)
either way, this isn't Minority Report or 1984, there is no thought crime, so i don't know wtf you people are talking about and i don't care. it's completely irrelevant. they chased him down on a suspicion of nothing that they could have any evidence for. drug dealing, possession of a weapon... all things they couldn't have known. and i'm not saying he should have run... i'm saying that ethically these cops, for breaking his back, are in the wrong, because that was not proportional response. it's tantamount to breaking a sleeping mans back for thinking he was going to attack you for waking him.

he was a big dude tho, getting put into the ground is going to have alot more weight coming down on his neck, its going to take more to get him there, and then adrenaline kicks in, and cops start using their feelings

Regardless of what one may think, it's illegal to run from police. I'm not a fan of the police AT ALL, but if you run from them I think they're entitled to stop you and search you, talk to you, etc because more likely then not, you're doing something wrong And who's to say he didn't ditch his 20 dollar crack rock or something when he ran from police. I'm on Mr. Grays side mind you, I believe this is an obvious case of police brutality. He didn't have a severed spine before meeting the police, but did after he had contact with them. I don't think it can be more black and white than that

legally, they might have a case against these cops. because not only were they were witch hunting, but they seemingly used much more force thatn necessary, and well, until the facts unfold, we just don't know the outcome... but i know that they were completely unethical to begin with, that's for sure.

A big dude? Any pictures I've seen of him he was a little tall maybe 6ft or so and very lanky There was a large rock where he was first tackled by police, that rock could be very well what he was tackled onto and snapping his back and neck.

Oh yeah. That guy. You must be referencing every person that's been arrested by police. I feel like its police protocol to dig their knee in your neck and bend you all to hell even when they've finally got you in cuffs.

did he run from them, or did he run within the vicinity of them? because i think he wasn't even being talked to by police, he just simply "made eye contact with them", which isn't cause for questioning, meaning there is no cause to give chase. he wasn't "running from them", he was just running within their vicinity. and if the cops still believed they had reasonable suspicion (do they have Robocop like detection of files for people they "eye", or what? no. they don't) they could have not broke his back for a pocket knife that he wasn't brandishing at all. it's simple confiscation of paraphernalia. if it's a felony to carry a pocket knife, then they shouldn't have them sold in stores, and they shouldn't have knife's in multi-tools then, as they are considered knife's then, no?
it's completely insane.

Its insane that you don't believe making eye contact with police and running isn't a cause to at least stop the person and see what they are doing. Ever watch the show cops? That same exact scenario happens all the time. You're not commiting a crime but there's an obvious reason to stop the person and talk to them. Don't be foolish.

it actually makes more sense when u picture it like that, your a cop walking down the street, u make eye contact, guy turns and RUNS fast as he can......suspicious as fuck, as a cop its your job and duty to run that dude down because 99% of the people who do that just got done killing someone, or something

IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO SIMPLY RUN FROM THE POLICE. I DONT KNOW WHERE PEOPLE GET THIS INFORMATION. IF YOU SEE A COP AND DECIDE TO RUN, THAT IS NOT ILLEGAL.
Running from the police is not grounds for a search.

Insane or not, the Supreme Court says running away from the police is not a crime unless you were already detained.
