Checked my local patches yesterday but still pretty dry. (Inner N suburbs) When i go hunting in the bush i look for those big browny red gum trees, you know the ones that ooze that red sap everywhere. If you can find one of those trees at the bottom of a slope there is almost always subs around the base of those trees. You don't want rocky areas in the bush you want wooded, grassy areas. Follow the rivers or creeks.
I like to take lunch, a pipe and my time and really enjoy nature. It's all about the hunt. :-)

Hi all, backyard patch is going off - here is a follow up to last weeks little subs I found in backyard patch. Thanks for the feedback last week from TheWiff and Tane Mahuta its good to get some encouragement. In regards to the greater outdoors I have been for two relaxing urbane bush walks at known reliable areas and found nothing even white mycelium was not doing to well yet. Only a couple of in-actives and some solitary death caps from memory its still a bit early for the spots I know. best of luck everyone http://

No, they're not magical or contain any drugs that will get you high.
They're Coprinellus micaceus.
In future post id requests in theur own thread instead of here. This thread is for confirmed Psilocybe finds only and not id requests. If you don't know how to make a thread then contact me.

Went for a wander this afternoon on the way home from work. Must've looked strange, trampling through parklands in slacks and a business shirt. Anyway I bumped into another hunter who was having better luck than I was. We chatted for a bit and I just wanted to say thanks for that (if you browse these forums) - it's awesome whenever that happens.
It looks like that chat changed my fortunes somewhat - while most of the beds I looked through had been ravaged by malicious assclowns, there were quite a few little pins poking their heads up through the mulch, and a few matured guys too.

First day out today and I'm done gathering for the season. Just wanted to share my love for shroomery peeps, touch base, and be off again until next year. Bless you all.
This is a 1.5kg find in Melbourne's east. Subs call out to me, have done for several years now. I quite a lightweight in terms of sensitivity so this will keep me going into next year. I might revisit this patch again though as I only grabbed half of 'em.

Did you create the environment in your backyard for subs to grow? Does anyone do this, and spray sub spores over the woodchips or something like that?

Long time lurker and your amazing pictures have convinced me to finally go for a hunt this year! I'm in the inner SE and was wondering (obviously not a location ask) if large public parks are worth a shot or if more off-trail and less accessible areas are better for hunting? I've come across a lot of Coprinellus micaceus, but can't seem to find any P. Subs so far

Yeah it's worth a look, heavy competition but you'd be surprised at how in the open and obvious some spots I've picked in Melbourne have been, and seemingly only I knew about them.
As for east gipp this year pics to come..soooo many Amanita muscaria. This year I'm going to try eating them after boiling the chemicals out. Anyone here pick them for culinary use?

Thanks for the comments lads!
Australia does not have any natural pine forests, it's a plantation. But a losely planted one at that.

Long time lurker. Just moved to Melbourne after some years. After an abysmal season in Sydney last year hoping to get some luck in my southern homeland.
Going for a ride up north, hoping the cold will treat me well!

Elborito, I tried using Aminita once. Found these GIANT dinner plate sized lovelies
Ended up doing a heap of reading on how to convert them into an edible form. Don't quote me on this but im of the impression you need to heat them to a certain temperature to convert the acids within into a different form, then do another cook to remove the rest (as the first cook just makes them more psychoactive) They tasted quite salty, almost like a steak! Really 'aquired' but I want to pick more this season and experiment properly.
